I've seen few Russians face to face, and I've never been there personally, but from the Russians whom I know, they're kind, caring, humorous, honest with their opinions, warm and friendly. They're nice people to be friends with. I've 2 Russian teachers, and their lessons count as some of the most valuable classes I have in the conservatory. They really appreciate others for who they are, and once they warm up to you, it's fun and laughter all the way. I always think Russian smiles are some of the most sincere I've ever seen, simply because they don't put on a constantly happy face when they're not happy. Same goes for their words....you seldom hear them give pretend compliments. They're really frank with what they say, and they'll tell you that you need to improve if they need to do so. Not the same as brutally honest though.

I like Russia's rich culture, especially in the arts. Russian music are some of my favourite music. It just overflows with emotions. Not to mention, the Russian scenery is breath-taking (even in photos). I feel for Russia's history too, for all that the country has gone through.

The answer above is an evident a common example of what people in America think even if they dont want to think like that. The fact is that the American society is limited in its freedom and chance to find out more of what is going on at least a hundred miles away from theor homeland, is really sad.
Polonium 210, cold Russia, bears in the streets, communists (and yeah, very very few people really know what Communism is), vodka- these are those limited stereotypes about a great nation with great histroy, with true humane soul and what is more important for me- a culture, literature and music that could compete with any other great achievements of the mankind.

Russia is a power that unlike the USA is not being as "bully" as many other superpowers.

Of course, Russia is not the land of those holy saviors who come to save other smaller nations, yes, they are, in some means, colonizers as well, but that is so natural.

At least Russia does not throw bombs on mosques, Russia does not pretend it is the Global Policeman, at least people in Russia know that there are other countries as well, other nations etc, unlike the USA where there is one country- AMERICA and another one, which they are not sure how to call: Europe or something?....

By the way, I urge those who do not really know Russia to visit it for at least once and then only make their judgements and give no crap to what "wise men" like G.W.Bush and others say.

God Bless America
God Bless Russia
God Bless the World

I hate it when people start talking crap about a country they don't know about...Russia is a beautiful country with rich history and beautiful I mean very beautiful girls.A person with a poorly educated mind (Imperial American)can not speak the truth, only none sense...

I'm Russian.

Russian's love food, and always dress to impress. Most Russian girls have really nice bodies and love to spend money on clothes. Alot of them become models.

Russians eat a lot. Russian's are just plain awesomeee=)

People answered this question very strangely, in either direction. Either the russians are cold and communist or the americans are imperialist and cold. Really? Come on everybody, really? Seeing the way that people answered this question - as it could even be answered in any way but by sterotypes - really shakes my worldview. I thought that people were getting past this sort of thinking. I just don't really get it... Russians are not any particular way because russians are, get this one - people! They are varied. It makes sense to have generalizations about a place as far as it's government and the way of life but the people's personalities and etc? That is very strange.

vasavasa2006
to simply say - I miss my Russian friends a lot.
I know that Americans are not capable on the same degree of friendship.
On the other hand, I keep away from Russians in USA
because nothing good they can offer (beyond brotherhood).

That's your biggest problem -- you do not have your own opinion. You mindlessly repeat what you are told by the big brother. Your government figured out a long time ago that ignorant, uneducated and degraded people are much easier to control and use.The US nowadays is worse than the USSR -- propaganda, fascism, xenophobia, hypocrisy, intolerance, delusions of grandeur, dictatorship, lawlessness, atrocities and war crimes, just to name a few characteristics of this society. And you think you can teach the world? The world is spitting in your face, if you haven't noticed yet...

I don't like Russia but have nothing against Russians. I don't treat them differently in any way than others. They are no better and no worse than others. And before another hot shot gives me a thumb down, let me say something for the record.

TO COSSAK - because of xenophobic and antisemitic idiots like you, your country is considered a pariah in the civilized world

TO KEVORK - I feel so sorry for you and your country. Particularly, because you have been (willingly!!!) Russia's puppet in the Caucasus - look where it got you...And before you angrily reply, I'll ask you another question: "Whom are you f...king kidding, ara"?

TO EVERYBODY ELSE: the beauty is in the variety, including variety of thoughts. Remember that, please and try to embrace although I perfectly understand that's not a part of the "rich Russian culture"

1. They lack of male population as they drink too much.
2. The evil of the world war 2 along with Germany.
3. Quite poor
4. Some very big billionaires which Putin arrests and cleans.
5. Slimy, not to be trusted.
6. Nice language.
7. Communists.
8. A country ran by a dictator.
9. People not to get friends with.

And these are my honest opinions as you asked them. But bear in mind that I've only spent two hours in Russia, so I'm a victim of stereotypes :(

Imperial American
I think that Russia is cold , boring , not very interesting and rather dreary. As for it's inhabitants the Russian? I think they are not to be trusted , suspicious , malevolent , and they like to use Polonium 210 a lot.
