Istanbul is an amazing city. It is the place where two continents meet, both geographically and culturally. Above all, it is a city with a great energy, very dynamic and lively.
When you go there, you must see Higha Sophia, The Blue Masque and Topkapi Palace (all in the european part of the city, in the quarter called Sultan-Ahmet, at a walking distance one from another), Dolmabahce Palace (at the european bank of Bosphorus), Taksim Square and Istiklal Cadesi (street) in the very center of the modern city, modern qaurters like Beyoglu, Sisli and Besiktas as well, Golden Horn (a small gulf snicking the european part of Istanbul) and of course Bosphorus (including cruising during which you can enjoy not only Bosphorus itself and its gorgious bridges, but also splendid palaces at its banks)... and much more!!! This is just a beginning, cause Istanbul is a magnificent city! Go and see! |

Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople

That's nobody's business but the Turks |

Istanbul is a magnificent city. Like Rome, it sits on seven hills, but unlike Rome, it is bisected by the most romantic waterway in the world, the Bosphorus, which separates Europe from Asia. It is a city of millions, but one in which everyone has a village.
If you say "I live in Istanbul," the immediate response will be, "Where?" To the initiated, that means a village name. From your answer, the resident, or long time visitor, will know a great deal about you. Whether you live near the "Boaz" or the Marmara or toward the Black Sea. It may even say something about the person's religion and economic status.
As many of the other respondents have said, things to do in the city and environs are endless. I lived in Istanbul for ten years, had at least 30 visitors from the States over that time and every last one of them loved the city, the country, the people.
If I sent them out alone for a day, I would give them one big cauion: "Do not accept the offer of help from anyone UNLESS you want to be helped all day long." That's how kind and generous Turks are. Of course, around the tourist spots such as in Sultanahmet, you will find the little parasites, but on my last trip, April 2006, I saw that even these eternal pests were being controlled.
It is my favorite city on earth. The two runners-up are San Francisco and old Hong Kong. If you cannot find what you love in Istanbul, you will never find it. |

Istanbul is a city of dreams and of failure. It's a center of modernity and a repository of antiquity. It is the bridge between Europe and Asia. Come to Sultanahmet. Visit Taksim. Take the ferry to the Princes' Island. Ride the Tunel. Do everything. |

What can i say about my love? Can i be unbiased? Noo way! Istanbul is a city where you can live the history, I mean real history. Then jump on a metro and go to best malls in the world for shopping. This city never sleeps, night clubs, music, girls, men, love, hatred, sadness, passion, dreams, traffic and hours to think about your life from the begining, nicest cafes to read your book, weirdest people to talk to, exotic restaurants to have dinner and more. Are you bored from the life you live, go to Istanbul, and live there you will never remember what boredom is ever after. I simply can not recommend you only one thing to do, you have to try to live the life in Istanbul. |
