What do you think about Serbia??

Additional Details
Thanks everybody for answering the question :-)

Dalton thankyou for your nice answer...
Though I can't speak for everyone...I don't think most Serbs hate American...They just have understandable problems with nato, and a few members of the Clinton administration...
And I wouldn't worry to much about close Russian ties (some of it is understandable because of Slavic and orthodox ties) But I can tell you now that most Serbs would choos living in America over Russia anyday!

You should vist Serbia one day. You would love it :-)

Most people connect Serbia with Milosevic, war in Bosnia, war in Kosovo,...

I have never been to Serbia yet - but I know it is still together with Montenegro (they want to seperate), there are famous monasteries, there is the Djerdjap (some kind of a canyon of the Danube), there is a region called Sumadija (which means "wood land"), there is the capital Belgrad, there is the Vojvodina (which is a very fertile area, as far as I know),...

There are many Serbians who live in Bosnia (Republika Srpska). I know many people from this area who were in my school: Danijela, Sanja, Snezana (which means "snow flake"), Visnja (which means "sour cherry"), Vesna, Mihajela, Dragan, Stojko,... very nice people, good friends, they always played Serbian dances on the parents´ evening. I also learned a lot of words in Serbian of them.

I think, Serbia will put people like Mladic to Den Haag. They will be cooperative with the European Union because they want to become member states in a few years.

I find it a bit odd that as recently as 10 years ago they were killing their own people. Tells a lot about the mentality.

How is Serbia doing now, after the breakup of Yugoslavia and the death of Milosovic? Has a real democracy taken root? Are the Serbian people being better represented? I'm from the US, so probably not well liked by the questioner, but my view of Serbs and their nation is very positive. I think they have great strength, and will be a strong force in Europe for good. I am concerned about their historical closeness with Russia. Putin looks less and less like a democrat everyday. I hope The US will help Serbia as much as they'll let us , I'd say Americans generally look at Serbia in a positive light, hopefully some day Serbia will view us that way as well.

nationalism is great, but it can get out of hand causing mass destruction and bloodshed. hopefully, Serbia has it out of their system now.

I'm from Serbia and I like it

it's a shame that people judge one nation only by last ten or 15 years.... and remember history is written by winners and we lost, so there are always two sides of a same story...

one more thing I travel a lot and have a hard time convincing foreigners that I'm Serbian, every time they say "you do not look like one", and they've never met a Serbian in their life before....

how should I look like?
