The first thing I think of when I hear the word "Turkey" is "home".
I'm from England but have been living here for the last 15 years. I'm comfortable and happy to be here, long may it continue. |

Turkey is great! The first thing it reminds me of are beautiful bays with clear waters and lush, green pine forests! After that comes the smile of its friendly people and my good friends there and after that the super delicious Turkish soups and apple tea! And at the end all those friendly carpet sellers who always seem to worry too much about my well-being! |

The summers I spent there as a child, the 2 years I lived in Eskisehir and Ankara. The cold winters in Eskisehir, the way the air used to smell in the mornings, the bazaars every week, the way you could go on a bus and go anywhere in Turkey, the way people used to stare at me in shock when they found out I was American. The kindness, hospitality and civility of Turks. I once gave a guy too much money at an ice cream stand and he chased me down the street to give me my money back... there are a lot of examples like this. |

Armenian genocide denial. Do they have the right to deny an apology?
Look what happened to some of my ancestors.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJedvAEfHeQ
Aram Keusseyan (born in 1908), from Harpoot, has also testified: "I was seven years old in 1915 when the order of deportation from Harpoot came. We set out duly dressed as if we were going to a wedding ceremony. The plunder started on the road, not once, but repeatedly; they robbed us in every possible manner. At the end, we were left with our underclothes, which were torn to pieces. I was in the cart. Eventually, my mother and my brother were unable to walk and remained on the road. I do not know whether they died the nor... The Turks were coming behind us and were collecting the children. We did not know if they would kill us or take us as their children. ...We had walked so much that we were exhausted. At last they ordered us to come to a halt. We stopped in a valley. They began to ask the adults: 'Are you Turkish or Armenian?' Those who replied, 'I am an Armenian,' were set apart and those who said, 'I am a Turk,' were put on another side. The ones that did not deny their Armenian origin were taken to a remote place and slaughtered. The others who agreed to become Turks were saved. At night, they gathered us, the children, on top of a small hill. We were so tired, that we lay down and fell asleep. At daybreak, we found out with horror that we were surrounded by innumerable cut human heads, which formed a hill; we had ignorantly slept all night on that hill of cut heads, but we didn't know..." The failed accession in the EU ,not because is the scapegoat but because of the remaining troops at Cyprus, the denial of the Armenian genocide, also because of the can't easily adopt the Freedom of Movement for Workers,Right of Establishment for companies & Freedom to provide Services,Public Procurement,Competition Policy,Agriculture & Rural Development,Food safety, Veterinary & Phytosanitary Policy,Fisheries, and Environment...
Ok,TD me for posting the EU criteria
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accession_of_Turkey_to_the_European_Union
As for what about I think about Turkey,
is a Beautiful country, with stubborn people, who keep blaming others (Greeks,Armenian, the bad European who think of the as scapegoats) for their own incapability to achieve something. |
