Only Bosnians and Macedonians don't hate Turkish people in Balkans. My parents are from Macedonia, but we're Turkish. We still have relatives out there, and we still love these land because my ancestors lived there more than 500 years. And i guess there are no political issues too. The problem was not with between Macedonia and Turkey, it was between Yugoslavia (mostly Serbia) and Turkey. Turkish people still see Macedonia as a part of them.

i was there last year, but i want to go back again soon!

Just Another Macedonian
It's true, we don't have any problems with Turkey. We have good relations with anyone who respect us and our country. We didn't just "become" friends with Turkey in spite of Greece. We are everyone's friend as long as they are our friends too.

Totally Blunt
I hope Macedonia solves its problems with its neighbors and gets on with its life.

As for for and against, it is always preferable to have good diplomatic relations between countries, which Turkey and Greece are developing right now (Min!).

If you read history, you will see that no enmity lasts forever. Looking at the history between GB and France, France and Germany, could you imagine their current relations?

to one greek user above: do you know when Aegean macedonia added in greece it did not in the greek revolution (1821) right? maybe about a century later yanya (ionnina) and Aegean macedonia were controlled by turks until 1913 so we have still strong connections with them

Don't get excited my friend, all it means is that good diplomatic relations at this point in time is in Turkey's national strategic interests.

But beware, trade is increasing between Greece and Turkey in the billions. In the future there is a risk Greece may use its good relations with Turkey to make her rethink her Macedonia friendship. One day Ankara like any government might just drop you like a rock.

zdravo! i have many macedonian friends in bulgaria . i dont think turks and macedonians was ever against each other. am i wrong?

Lady S
I think all the people should be friends. Also, as for what that guy said about relations between ex-Yugoslavia and Turkey, I have to warn you that, when you say "Yugoslavia", it basically means "Serbia". Serbs had the greatest influence in Yugoslavia and the official standing of Yugoslavia was kinda official standing of Serbia. So, that doesn't mean that the rest of us felt the same. I don't think that anyone in ex-Yugoslavia hates Turkey, except for the Serbs, but they hate a lot of people... LOL :)

A friendship between two countries must be based on peoples' relationship not on governmental interests, which just coincide in a certain period of time. That is a general comment on all kinds of relationships between countries (even between NATO and EU members). Especially, between Turkey and FYROM, there are only common interests. FYROM government wants to provoke instability in the Balkans through irredentist policies and Turkey wants to interfere in the Balkans through that instability. Maybe that common interest relationship evolves into a true friendship between the two peoples, but that's too soon. It needs a lot of years.

Here is some info on another supposed friendship that the FYROM has:

US House of Representatives in 1361 resolution on Durban Revision Conference, unanimously adopted by the Plenum, refers to our neigbouring country as FYROM and not as "Republic of Macedonia. It is a first time that a unanimous decision of the US House of Representatives makes clear reference of the neighbouring country’s internationally recognized name. It should be reminded that the two bodies of US Congress-House of Representatives 356 resolution and the Senate’s 300 resolution – call FYROM to put a halt to its hostile and irredentist campaign against Greece and work constructively to produce a mutually acceptable solution to name issue.
