What do you think of Fetullah Gulen and why? |
What do you think of him? There was this Turkish dude who was very nasty and said bad words about F. Gulen. I don't understand why he is so angry. Is F. Gulen a bad person? We don't know him actually but we see his quotes on school plaques. We know more about Ataturk than this dude. Can you give me your opinion?
I study at a Turkish International School in the Philippines and I want to know if it's a bad school. If it's bad then I don't want my family paying $4000 a year if my school is not a good one. Additional Details I don't know what your problem is ms. bird and the others but if you won't give a good answer then YOU get out of my question and delete your answers. This is a perfectly logical question and I want to know that is why I am here.
Mr. Hotturk, what do you mean by brainwashing please? Thanks. |

Fethullah Gulen is a Muslim evangelist who purports to be working for inter-religious harmony, but is known by both those directly involved in his operations and the Turkish government that his ultimate aim is to overthrow the secular republic, and is considered public enemy #1 by the military--even higher than the PKK.
His organisation works by recruiting poor village teenage boys who show academic promise to their chain of cram schools ("dershane" in Turkish), FEM (Fethullah Egitim Merkezi). After a year or so of extracurricular courses, the organisation convinces the family of the student that the student is a prime candidate for intensive training, and that he must go away to study with FEM.
It is at this point when the brainwashing begins. Rather than teaching academics, it is drilled into these students' heads that the "secular state is evil, and Islam is the only true path and Fetullah Gulen will lead the way". It is rumoured that the students who slit the throat of the Christian missionaries working out of Malatya earlier this year were part of Gulen's network (there's a huge Fetullaci base operating out of that city).
After the year or so of mental reconditioning, Fethullah's group then pays the educational expenses of his charges to go to either top universities within Turkey or to the US. In exchange for tuition, his students must secretly proselytize, sending emails to Turkish student associations suggesting that they check out Gulen's literature, trying to make campuses dry, and suggesting that non-Muslim students read the Koran.
In terms of outward appearance, however, these students are told to dress fashionably, go to parties and listen to loud music--even drinking alcohol in some instances-- so as not to blow their cover. Actually, this goes for Gulen's operation as a whole: his website, his books, and his schools overseas are crafted so that he appears to be a sweet kind, sickly old man with no motives other than supporting education and fostering peace-making dialogue.
Fethullah Gulen has been efficiently exiled from Turkey, and stays in the US in Pennsylvania under the guise of getting "medical treatment", although I heard that the US was going to deny him a Green Card.
He gets funding from the Gulf States, rich observant Muslim Turks in Germany and the Netherlands, and from "yesil sermaye" (Islamist capital) money floating around the world. He has close ties with the AK Parti government by virtue of getting heavy funding from Ulker, of which heavy shares are owned by Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Abdullah Gul. He also has close ties to the owner of Doga Educational Group, a Turk residing in the US who owns: Doga Koleji, a group of private schools around Istanbul and English Time, an English course dershane.
Fethullah Gulen's propaganda cadre also includes Zaman, a newspaper that is an outlet for his PR machine and claims to have the second-highest circulation rate in Turkey, as Fetullah followers are forced to stuff them in mailboxes of non-subscribers; Today's Zaman, an English-language version; and Samanyolu TV, a religious-oriented channel that in the off hours broadcasts hooey like cartoons depicting the Battle of Gallipoli, telling children that the Brits and Australians lost because they drank wine and cavorted with women, while the Turks prayed like good Muslims.
EDIT: Tramp--In the English Time lounges the management keeps no other papers around but Zaman and Today's Zaman. Reportedly other papers left there are quickly disposed of. Not to mention that the group pays piss-poor wages (if paying salaries at all) and fails to get their foreign teachers work visas. |

He is very clever and very successful in brain-washing.
Dear Mr.Thecybershawnbomb: Fethullah's brain-washing is a kind of washing by misusing the religion to STEAL stupid peoples money. I can not do anything more if u still didnt understand, continue your education there. |

I don't know him. But there are two facts:
1. He is very popular among the religious in turkey, has very close relations to virtually every politician (including ecevit).
2. He has very close relations with USA, stays there all the time.
Most probably you will get good education because these schools are not intended to make excess profits, they have different goals like broadening the international presence of Gulen's group. |

As far as I know the education in those schools are really good. If your teachers never even mention his name I think you shouldn't be worried about Gulen so much. But I think asking your teachers is a good idea. I don't know about him so I rather not comment on him. Chill out and try to be successful in your school. Of course no one is nasty to you because you are not Turkish however I do find the reaction of some users embarrassingly absurd. Don't mind them. I hope you become a diplomat, I want to become one too:) |

I don't like him. He tries to influence people and brainwash them. He's a radical Islamist. He's damn rich.
And he's so ugly when he cries. Man, such insincerity. He's disgusting when he cries.
I don't like people who think he's an important person. Everything's in Koran, why listen to this person's preachings when he has so much money coming from questionable sources. Personally, I'll keep away from anyone who calls this person Hoca and is ideologically close to his teachings or related to him in any way. He's Fettoş for me. |

i think he's trying to veil some things going on behind the scene by establishing turkish int'l schools all over the world, by trying to intoduce himself to the world as a sophisticated philantropist (right spelling, eh?)...
i don't have detailed information about him but i know that he's somehow related to religion and nationalism and people around me disregard him greatly as far as i know... so he's not a nice guy, you see.
well, when you graduate from that school and come to Turkey, you'll be assosicated with a certain kind of ideology and some people may act unfriendly toward you believing that you're a follower of Fethullah Gülen's teachings. thus, if you want to study & work in Turkey, i recommend that you should change your school... still, if there is no other school educating and edificating in turkish, and if you want to study & work in Turkey so badly you can continue going to that school...
however, there is the problem that you should not accept the concrete ideology your school & teachers is trying to inject to you, because if you follow it, i believe you won't have a broad view of the world. just stick to your lessons, stick to what Atatürk has said and believed in (for he is one of the most influential and idealistic political leaders that have ever lived), nothing else.
if you just want to study & work abroad, not in turkey it's not much of a problem... because you can easily find another int'l school.
a piece of advice from me... your school doesn't really matter, if you value human rights, a vision for future, a mission for the humanity, you'll eventually figure out what is right and what is wrong and consequently succeed, don't worry.
good luck!
-oh that's alright then... if they don't push you to support F.G., you don't need to worry :) so, you should consider the academic features of your school to decide on whether it's a good school or not, nothing else as a result, if they are not brain-washing you! :) |

He is a businessman. But he makes business in a very dangerous arena.......religion.
He controls billions of dollars and collecting the money illegally from the illetarete population. He is not paying any tax to any government in the world.
As far as i heard,he lives well in the United States and well means WELL.
He invests in education.Very smart. He owns or controls too many schools all over the world specially in Turkey, the Turkish speaking former Soviet Republics and other muslim countries which you say you studied one of them in Philippines.
He's like a misioner, trying to spread islam but in my personel thought, considering what islam is,he is playing a very dangerous game in a very dangerous field, and unfortunately that field happens to be my country,Turkey.
The other risk is,he is very old and sick.Who is going to take over his post after hes gone.As i told before, that group controls unlimited money and with wrong hands i dont want to think what would happen. |

I hate him. He is not Turkish by the way. He has some other purposes he uses the name of Turkey and Turkish and he is a real brain washer.
My friend not only in YA in Turkey he is a person that most of us hate. He is not honest. Wel if you understand Turkish try to read some comments about him outside YA.
My friend don't you dare put Ataturk's and Fethullah's names in the same conversation.
If Ataturk was alive Fethullah Gulen wouldn't be doing what he is doing now. |
