I think in Moscow most girls dress really fashionably, really sharp. Some girls do tend to over do it and come off a bit tacky. And then there are the girls who dress like they are going to work on a street corner. But overall the women here are sharp dressers. I must say, I don't know how girls can wear high heals like that all the time. I feel like I am going to trip coming off the metro escalator in my street shoes.

The men are another story. Some men do match the ladies in dressing sharp and fashionably. The rest of the men either look like they took a time machine out of the eithers or they just came out of gym class. Attention Russian Men: Mullets are ugly, and weren't even sexy in the 80's. Some guys even have duck tails, I had actually forgotten about those. I think a lot of Russian men need to step it up in the fashion department.

I have Russian friends and they are totally into fashion and trends they are very European style for sure.

Sometimes it's a little to over the top though and when i attend parties they all try so hard to compete against one another regarding who looks better in that dress and oh what brand is that and where did you buy it from? how much did you pay etc..

I think it's cute and i realize this is part of the culture, and they are just like this.

My russian friend told me once when she was living in russia that she would put on her fur coat and heels to take out the trash.

Im not speaking for all Russians so please ladies dont grade me to harsh but come on you know its partially true.

Love ya

Well, for example in Moscow

There are different kinds of girls, like

- wearing same stuff all the time
- wearing fashionable clothes
- wearing national/religious clothes (let me say so about Hijab and etc)
- wearing something else

This is not much different from Europe, or maybe America too (never been there)

Have to say that most of people (I took girls as example, but guys too) look nice.

High heels, leather boots, nice figure (which alot of russian girls have) - nothing wrong with that. to us the way most of americans (for example - no offence!) dress may seem just as odd .

Not my style, but to each his own!

In a back-handed sort of way, the Siberian answer told you all you needed to know: Fashion is something to be taken *Seriously*! And those people who don't take much all that seriously can be amused by those who do.

To answer your question: I think it's a bit excessive, but so is some of our stuff. For example: Is there an American female over the age of 4 that Doesn't have either a piercing or a tattoo?

...And to avoid such stern rebukes in the future, do try to include a quote from Pushkin in subsequent questions.

Well I'm not really Russian, but our cultures are very interrelated. I grew up in Ukraine and live in US now and from the time I was a little girl, my mother told me that beauty demands sacrifices. That means looking your best no matter what the occasion is.

When I went to high school in the US I could immediately spot the other Russian girls because of the way they were dressed. Always with taste, class and lots of chic. Maybe its a part of the culture but it is my culture and this is who I am :)

I got to say that living in US for about 10 years now, sometimes getting extra half hour of sleep in the morning became more important then getting my makeup done. But packing for my business trip to Moscow for a week I had to turn my closet inside out. I think I'm taking 4 pairs of shoes with me for 5 days I will be there, but at least they match all my outfits. :D

I love the way Russians dress, it's very fancy and expensive looking. I wish people in US dressed like that also because it would be fun and (for the way Russian women dress) it's far more feminine then the way American women dress. I'm sorry I really don't mean to be offensive, I just want to voice my opinion.

I think it is a bit tacky (it always reminds me of the 3 am crowd at a waffle house) but all they have to impress is each other. When I lived in Japan I looked like a slob compared to the well dressed Japanese.

I think, that one should have better, more relevant questions that deal with real life than this to clutter up Russia section with. If such things are bear so much weight on one's mind that they feel inclined to pose questions regarding these matters on internet, that person should be thankful. They have very little in life to worry about.

I think a person dresses according to their environment..average temperatures and national culture or in some cases subcultures.. Thus the russian fashion reflects their nation. As does the fashion of the United States reflects the diversity of our population.
