Human development- The USA ranks (12) where as Turkey is (84) in the world...
Interesting note: Turkey even ranks behind its neighbor Armenia, which is struggling with poverty.
Countries such as Poland (37), neighboring Greece (24), Argentina (38) and Kazakhstan (73) are all ahead of Turkey.
The low ranking is partly due to the low rates of literacy and education in Turkey. |

My guess is an obvious one, we have true freedom of religion here, which Turkey does not have. I see the intense restrictions they place on the Orthodox church there and it makes me cringe. I am not Orthodox, but even I have heard of their unfair treatment of the Orthodox church in Turkey. It is like they are trying to force them out of the country, or let them die of attrition. |
