Athens is great if you just fancy being lazy- friendly people, cheap food, good bars and the occassional ancient pile of rubble to look at. Plus almost everyone speaks really good English.
Paris is beautiful and has a ton of things for you to do. A word of advice though- don't try and do everything, there's just too much. I went with my boyfriend and we attempted to do just that. Not a good idea- tempers frayed! The Louvre is always worth a look- especially Napoleon's apartments. And the Paris metro system is amazing! Worth a trip to Paris for that alone!
If you don't mind a bit of wind and rain, how about Edinburgh? Quite a small city so getting around isn't a problem. Fantastic and varied architecture. You can do the tourist thing and go up to the castle and the Royal Mile. Or just hang about in the lovely Botanic gardens. There are loads of places to eat and bars and pubs to suit everyone. It also has a Harvey Nicks- why not go and have a look at all the stuff you can't afford!

This isn't easy as the replyer will no doubt sugest their city of choice. however, there are many cities in Europe to spend a long weekend at. It is cheaper to get there first then use the local travle agenst to do the Europe traveling.
Western Europe is much the same as America while Eastern Europe is still recovering from the Velert Curtin rising a few years ago. People in Europe are differemnt then elsewhere in the world, they have a polish that isn't there in other countries peoples. Gemany in the north is different to the South and the people who live there are also different. Have a look at movies from Europe and if you life an actress or actor, check out imdb.com and find out where they were born. That will give you a peek into their personality and if you like that style, then check out where they were born and grew up. Always keep a diary of your trips and compare it with the next trip you do and eventually, you can write a book on your experiences so that others will pay you for the information. You love to travle and the best advice, is to listen to your inner self at where it is telling you it wants to go. You enjoy the experience. Dream It Beleive It Create and Succeed with your travels.
Hope I've been helpful

spain's pretty boring. i'm assuming you're wanting to get away from the uk so i'll say paris, even if it is a little clichéd; koli in finland; zagreb; and moscow's pretty nice

if you're looking for a metropolitan type area then take paris, berlin or stockholm

I've been on many long w/end trips to European cities and can honestly say rome tops it for me, both as a romantic getaway with a partner or even on your own. Prague comes second - though I wouldn't recommend going alone as few people really speak english fluently, you might feel isolated. It is fantastic for classical music, culture and eating out. Great sightseeing to be done and you don't even need to use public transport. Both cities can be explored on foot. Sorry to Paris lovers: but I find this city very overrated - I feel the Bohemia it promises died long ago - I even went back recently to see if I missed anything but no, it doesn't appeal to the romantic or traveller in me in the least!

fed up with stupid questions
Easy Jet to Tallinn in Estonia, but not when the lager lout stag weekend guys go in July/August. This city is absolutely stunning, and small enough that you could spend three days there and know it very well. one of the most beautiful old squares i've seen in a capital city. the estonians are very intelligent and technologically very advanced, they are also very good looking and open to conversation.

the other option was my favourite, and that is Lisbon which is also small and stunning with the castle overlooking the centre and the huge christ monument on the other side of the Tagus river, which you can go up for an absolutely stunning view of the river and city

It has to be Prague - a lot of culture, great architecture, hotels, food and drink all reasonably priced and flights to get there are cheaper than most alternatives.

Rome was great...go for a walk and end up stumbling across the roman forum. Just gorgeous. I found Paris a bit too much.. too much to see.. too many tourists.. to many rude people. Barcelona is also great craic.

Barcelona or Prague are the best if you want history and culture. Berlin and Amsterdam are better if you want a rave-up.

London is worth a trip everytime (I´m just returned from a 2-day-trip). Florence is nice. And actually all larger cities are worth to be visited once :-)

Munich is the best city break iv ever had.. Very nice (better than York) with loads of wonderfull German beer..

Clever and Depressed
Rome is a beautiful city. Great food, great architecture, rammed with history and friendly people.

Expensive hotels though.

Still my favourite city in the world.

IN the UK - Bath is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and well worth a visit. You might even bump into Johhny Depp as he has moved there.
London is good but very busy and expensive.

Budapest in Hungry is well worth a visit and is still pretty cheap. for example we went to the opera for just ÂŁ5. ($8)

Cluj in Romaina is a fantasitc place too and very cheap.

Berlin is by far my favorite place in Europe though there is a real air of freedom about it and most will speak english too.

Any city in the Netherlands. It's freakin' beautiful here. I just came to a city called Deventer, and it's a beautiful little place. Amsterdam might also be a good choice, but consider a smaller city as well. Maybe find one with a nice museum or zoo, or some other attraction. I highly recommend the Netherlands though. There are gardens everywhere, trees, wonderful bike paths (you should rent a bike to get around, it's faster than driving anyway), great attractions, parks, and the people are incredibly friendly and helpful and most of them speak English.

Rome gets my vote - it's totally amazing!
