All the history since Peter the Great, Kathrine the Great and so on, the whole history of Russia before the communism is quite interesting. CanÂ´t really tell it in a few words, you have to read it yourself. The communism destroyed everything! "Interesting facts" about Russia would fill an encyclopedia. In many ways it's a wonderful place. In many ways it's a terrible place. It's home to incredible beauty - and sickening ugliness.

The culture is rich and deep - and so totally different from the West that we're incomprehensible to each other. The Russian people have much to be proud of in their history and culture. They are also the most insecure and paranoid people on earth. Maybe it's because their territory has been invaded and occupied so many times over the last thousand years. Maybe because they've had the most brutal despots in history.

One man - born Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili - is credited for having directly caused the deaths of more people than anyone ever born. His collectivizations and purges killed over 30 million of his own countrymen, making Hitler an amateur by comparison. Yet he posthumously enjoys about a 64% approval rating in Russia today.

Russian women are among the most beautiful, educated, and cultured in the world - and Russian men treat them like dirt, preferring their mistresses and drinking buddies to their families. I spent 2 weeks in St. Petersburg last October, and walking the city I saw thousands of men, women, and children. Never, ever, not once did I see a man with a child - with or without a woman - because it's considered unmanly. Alcoholism is worse than pandemic in Russia; it's actually affected the country's demographics. The average Russian women lives 74 years; the average man only 58. The number of women of child-bearing years exceeds that of same-aged men by over 10 million - this in a country with a total population of less than 150 million. Alcohol is by far the biggest killer in all of Russia . . . now that Stalin is dead. I've spoken to over 100 Russian and Ukrainian women in the last year and all say the same: the men in their country are ALL drunks, boors, and bums, and they will have nothing to do with them. The industry that's assisting Russian women in finding husbands in the West is a booming business - and that's why.

They have one of the highest education rates in the world - GOOD educations! And almost none of them can use it. World-class artists and musicians are working in offices; physicians and scientists are working in retail shops. Why? The pay is better AND it's on time! They need to feed their families - especially the millions of single mothers. The government is growing more and more delinquent in paying their workers - including doctors. Many have left medicine; those who remain are either incompetant, or they charge the patients exorbitant fees, bypassing the national healthcare system. If you get sick in Russia - LEAVE!!!

An interesting fact is that Russia is a nation of contradictions - truly Beauty and The Beast. I admire them greatly - and pity them just as greatly - but I hate them not at all.

My Husbands father Oleg is a total dick head and I hate his guts. My Husbands mother Tatya is one of the most selfish people that I have ever met, and the only go thing that I got out of Russia is wonderful husband.
There food pretty much is gross. I do like the palamani.
Vodka, ruins people lives. Most people live in poverty and its always fricken cold in Siberia. It holds the world record for the coldest place on earth.
Besides that, generally most russian people who are NOT NOT NOT americanized are very sweet. However once the russian people get a taste of america, they start acting like every other typical american.
