Since I am heading there too this May..This is what I am going to do. I am taking Euros for Greece...and American Dollars for Turkey.
It will be a lot more convenient while you are shopping around in Greece to take the Euro. Just in case you get into a city where the merchants don't want to deal with American dollars..I have seen that before.
In regards to Turkey. Its not part of the European union. So American dollars are probably better for bartering. Just find out what the local currency is worth...then make your deals.

Greece is an EU member and in the euro zone. So you should have euros for Greece. As for Turkey, you can bring euros, US dollars etc. It is easy to use them in shopping or exhchanging them at any bank or exchange office.

Hurricane
Greece, since it is a member of EU,has changed it's money from drahmi to euro but it wasn't so easy for greeks because the worth of living is extremely expensive now in greece with euro!!

When it comes to Turkey;Turkey is not a member of EU yet,and either euro, dollar or pound is very comman. There are lots of exchange offices around streets.

if you ask me their value; 1 EURO = 1.82 YTL, 1 DOLLAR = 1.38 YTL and 1 POUND = 2.88 YTL now in Turkey

In Greece, Euros are the currency, in Turkey, YTL (new Turkish lira).
Bring any hard currency (euros, dollars, sterling) to exchange - easily done anywhere in both countries but DON'T bring a lot of cash! You can use credit/debit cards in shops and restaurants or to take out cash (in local currency) from an ATM; or you can exchange traveller's cheques in large cities/tourist resorts. It's dangerous anywhere in the world to have a lot of cash on you, Turkey and Greece are no exception.

well, euro is widely used as much as dollar in Turkiye...

When I went to Turkey I used only Turkish Lire. Finding a Bureau de Change can sometimes be quite a task, and ATMs or CashPoints aren't always turned on. Many hotels will change dollars, pounds sterling, euros, or yen - but they also charge you a hefty fee. I don't think I saw a shop or restaurant that accepted US currency. Mostly they get English, Australian, or East Asian tourists.

And expect your postcards to take 3 weeks to reach your home.

Qu'est ce que tu pense?
Well, if you're a tourist you can use euros since Greece officially uses them. Turkey on the other hand uses euros, but it's only in the cities where tourism is big. If you are going to a smaller town I would suggest using Liras (the official Turkish money).

When I go to Turkey, I always use Liras(even if my friends never let me to spend there). You can use euros also, but be careful in some places because ther will be mistakes. But you ll find everywhere exchange, dont worry, life is not also expensive...
In Greece you can use euros...

haha AMERICAN DOLLARS

fo sho.

El Chris
Take your dollars dont worry, Turkey will never boycott American dollar even if Armenian Genocide resolution passes the House or Rep. in USA. The wolves are all talk no action.
About Greece, Euro and US dollars work fine. Have a good trip.
