It is a volcanic island (with smaller islands also volcanos nearby) that is a country that was a colony of Denmark and was founded by Vikings/Norsemen a long time ago. It is about half way between Europe and North America with Greenland between it and NA - its name and Greenlands name were propaganda choices, Iceland is in the Gulf Stream and is much more pleasant than it sounds. It has no native trees. It is one of the few countries where family names are replaced by -son or -dottir, so if I lived there and had a boy and a girl, they might be named Jim Mikeson and Judy Mikesdottir. Women do not change their name when married.

It's an island country in the North Atlantic, and it's not even that cold since it has incredible resources of geothermic springs/vents, etc. There's an amazing microclimate, and even some palm trees. It's one of the places I would most like to visit.
