What is "Namus"?

Is marrying a foreigner who is a divorced woman who has two children considered a violation of that Turkish man's (the one who wants to marry her) honor? Can you also please reply to another question in my profile. Cok Tessukur edirem

well, I reckon you are a divorcee with two children who's about to get married to a Turkish man... and apparently the family of the man has some objections.

To a great extent (not only confined to Turkish society but almost for all the countries & cultures e.g. Latinos, Slavians etc alonside the Muslim societies) this act is -thogh not immoral- hard to absorb by the society.

The parents & family of the man must have a social circle to which they must keep their dignity (their NAMUS with this sense). This is where ancient morals of humanity is involved.

Sooooo.. this is the MAN's problem actually, not yours.
But the two kids concerned ..are they ready to embrace such a step father? that's what YOU have to concentrate on.

Speaking from a perspective of a woman living in Turkey, if your husband-to-be's family is bringing this up, that should send off warning bells. As other people have said, these kinds of ideas have to do with socio-economic background, and can be tough to dislodge.

In some parts of Turkey, a girl can be murdered for even making eye contact with a male in a market, as her perceived "flirtation" is "ruining the family's namus". Never mind the fact that if a guy runs around on his wife, that's 'okay.' The term for "honor killing" in Turkish is "namus cinayeti", btw.

This is not "culture". This is a sorry excuse for cold-blooded murder in which the adults in the family in question are too chicken to suffer the consequences, so they have a kid in the family do it, and local governments consequently turn a blind eye until a given case gets press coverage.

It depends on that man's family's worldview really. You can't generalize. My sister was divorced, and now she's married to a guy who had never been married before. There was not a problem with his family when they decided to get married.

Good luck to you.

depends on their brain, life style , education. in turkey unfortunately for many people *namus* is between the legs. why would you want a man like that anyway who wont love you for who u r. if he is big mummas boy he ll go with what his mummy wants. get a man not a big mummas boy

Depends on the mans family how they would see such things... I would say if the man is divorced or anything its no problem but if the man never been married before there might be problems from his family....

but nothing that can not be over come if there is true love..Good luck...

this is a social norm. depend to other cultures. But now Its a politic essay.Every body must be "Namus"'lu...Honest.....

:(
namus: decency, honesty, honour, integrity... in Turkey unfortunatelly when you say "namus" first thing came to peoples' mind was something to do with the se*x.... the word was getting related with virginity....

♫ELI♫
namus and namussuz there r 2 words.. sum idiots call namussuz if a las fuks a lad b4 marriage... namus is a silly word.. i call namususz if sum1 steals or kills.....

iyiogrenci
It is a private relation between them.

Namus is a concept about being a human in a society to obey the rules accepted by most of the people there.

Unfortunately, her boyfriend's parents have old brains.

I suggest her boyfriend to ignore his family and marry. Also each Turkish family want a child from their children. So when they have a child, her boyfriend's family will forgive him.
Old brained Turkish/Muslim men, usually want a woman who didn't lose her virginity. Also marrying with a woman who has children, come difficult to them..But as I understood from ur other question, luckly her boyfriend isn't old brained. The problem is with his family..As I said before, he must ignore them.
*** If he is in a old-brained society, some men can look him in a different way, unfortunately..

Hope all the things will get well for them..

Not even remotely. Theoretically you can even marry a prostitute and actually it is considered as a very good deed in islam. Marrying a divorced woman is also superior when compared to marrying a single woman. Believe it or not, it is true.
