KRAKOW!!!
Don't listen to the others knocking Poland... they obviously didn't know how to make the best of a place - or maybe they only want beaches, nightclubs, and fish 'n chips on holiday in Ibiza or Playa des americas!
Krakow is one of the most beautiful cities in Eastern Europe for one, plus it's a university town, so it's got a great nightlife too - kind of like Brighton in size I guess!
And getting there is not expensive, as Ryanair flies there - look at my links to find all the budget flights for your time span.
Also, there are 2 great hostels there called The Ars Hostel, and The Flamingo Hostel (in a great location with a double-bed room for £12 a night!
Hope this helps

Poland is an ancient nation that was conceived near the middle of the 10th century. Its golden age occurred in the 16th century. During the following century, the strengthening of the gentry and internal disorders weakened the nation. In a series of agreements between 1772 and 1795, Russia, Prussia, and Austria partitioned Poland amongst themselves. Poland regained its independence in 1918 only to be overrun by Germany and the Soviet Union in World War II. It became a Soviet satellite state following the war, but its government was comparatively tolerant and progressive. Labor turmoil in 1980 led to the formation of the independent trade union "Solidarity" that over time became a political force and by 1990 had swept parliamentary elections and the presidency. A "shock therapy" program during the early 1990s enabled the country to transform its economy into one of the most robust in Central Europe, but Poland still faces the lingering challenges of high unemployment, underdeveloped and dilapidated infrastructure, and a poor rural underclass. Solidarity suffered a major defeat in the 2001 parliamentary elections when it failed to elect a single deputy to the lower house of Parliament, and the new leaders of the Solidarity Trade Union subsequently pledged to reduce the Trade Union's political role. Poland joined NATO in 1999 and the European Union in 2004. With its transformation to a democratic, market-oriented country largely completed, Poland is an increasingly active member of Euro-Atlantic organizations.
Best Places to Visit in Poland
Krakow
If you have time to visit just one town in Poland, it should be Krakow. The town's setting is attractive and its Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is both well preserved and enchanting.
Warsaw
Warsaw's Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the center of tourism in the city. Although much of the original Old Town has been rebuilt and is a modern creation, it is an attractive and interesting destination. The city's architecture reflects years of communist rule but continues to improve.
Gdansk
Gdansk can be visited as a day trip from Warsaw. Many tourists consider Gdansk an interesting place to visit and it has gained notoriety as the center of the Solidarity movement. Gdansk's Old Town is quite charming.
Torun
Often compared to Krakow but considerably smaller, friendlier, and less touristy, Torun's Old Town is, also, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Zamosc
Zamosc, yet another Polish town with UNESCO World Heritage status, is off the radarscope of most tourists. It is an interesting town that deserves your attention, if you are in the area.
