In terms of natural beauty I'd go with Rio de Janiero (mountains, ocean, bay, hills). In terms of man made beauty I'd go with Paris. The best is so subjective but my favorites (probably in this order) are: Amsterdam, Bangkok, Rome, Rio, Cairo. I love my hometown San Francisco, and loved New Orleans a lot too, I guess NY is now my 2nd favorite US city. |

This is a good question. As for the best, I must express my opinion that it would have to be a German city. They are so clean, efficiently run, and safe, but they still have all of the architectural and cultural treasures that make other cities in Europe or Asia so exciting and interesting. If I had to pick a single German city, I would say Berlin. Hamburg may be a close second. Berlin has the nicest subway that you will ever see, an incredible wealth of museums and interesting monuments like the Brandenburg Gate and Marienkirche, as well as some incredible modern architecture. After the reunification of East and West Germany in 1991, there began and still continues a great deal of construction in Berlin. I have a picture from the top of the Berlin cathedral in 1996 in which you can count at least 50 construction cranes. Those buildings are finished now and many are towers of glass, sweeping lines, and interesting design.
As for the most beautiful city in the world, the answer may surprise you. Many people think that it is Cape Town, South Africa. I have never been there, but the physical location is apparently stunning, with the City wedged between mountain and sea, the Dutch colonial architecture very quaint and beautiful, and the views incredible from every part of the city. |

I love the architecture in the subway stations and the musicians who play there too. Imagine 3 guys in tuxedos playing their violins in a subway!
I also like the Red Square, the many museums, the Arts... although I'm not a fan of the circus. |
