What is the best country to visit in Europe? I have heard Portugal, is this true?

Portugal is a very beautiful country with friendly people and good food. They've really made their country one that is focused on tourist income so you'll find that most places speak English.

To say it's the best country in Europe is difficult though. Each country I have visited has it's charm and romance.

Paris is the most beautiful city I have been in and it is quite romantic. The rest of France also has it's charms.

The same can be said for Spain...and Denmark...and Italy...and on and on...

I would say that Portugal is a country that a number of Americans overlook and when they do, they miss out on a really beautiful country.

I haven't been to Portugal but i have heard it is beautiful!! I am going to Europe in May to work and travel so hopefully i will get to see Portugal.
I really loved Lucern in Switzerland i thought it was beautiful, I also really really loved Bath in the UK and Nice in France, all really lovely places. To be honest i hated Italy, im not sure why?! I may have gone at the wrong time of year and i didnt get to go to see the places like Tuscany and stuff so that might be it.

Portugal is a great country to visit. It is one of the least expensive in all of Europe, and the people there are genuinely friendly and helpful, especially if you are a tourist. They always go out of their way for a stranger. Check out Rick Steves website. He has great info on Portugal, and there are tons of good travel books as well.

Depends what you want. But in my opinion, France is the best because it offers a little bit of everything. I prefer Croatia to Portugal.

Yes, it's true! We really go out of our way to help a stranger. The best thing in Portugal is... the Portuguese People. Como here, and then tell me if I'm not right! ;)

I completely agree Portugal is the best place in Europe to visit........but then again I guess I'm prejudice I am Portuguese.

Well it depends what your looking for. If your looking for romance then FRANCE! Its also a good place too look for a little history. If your looking for a beautiful city then go to Russia and go to Moscow, its absolutely AMAZING!
If your interested in spanish Spain.
But personally i loved France, the people are good, and even if you say something rude and you dont know it, they will correct you politely and tell you what you truly said. They will also just use the excuse "She's just American" there some habits that they expect from Americans and they tolerate them really well

As a Portuguese I'd say... come to Portugal! But quite frankly I suppose it all depends on what you're looking for. Europe is vast and diferentiated. In Portugal you'll find cheaper prices than in most of Western Europe (which is to say Europe is quite expensive), beaches, medieval castles, churches, some nightlife, different things (vegetation, architecture) from North to South. But you should also see, well, I don't know, Spain, France, Italy, Greece and, yes, even the UK, namely Scotland if you're in for rain the whole year round plus haunted castles. Truly, the choice is wide. But since I'm in Portugal, well, do come here. I'm sure you'll like it! :)

Yes.Portugal is abosuletely beautiful.The photos from Madeira are great.Great places are Italy and France!
