You have to distinguish what is best referred to.
Each town is known best for one or more attributes and every one will give you his/her opinion.
However, best for archaeological museums is Athens. Best for History is Nafplion and surrounding Mycenae and Epidaurus. Delphi and Olimpia too.
Best island all over for many things is Crete. Corfu and Rhodes just as good.
Best in fashion island Santorini and/or Myconos.
Best in living conditions and its people Thessaloniki.
The list is endless and always you will get one that is better than those.

That's a difficult question. I could say Volos, Kastoria, Ioannina, Thessaloniki! Some people believe that Athens is the best, and l agree that it great but l prefer to say small towns.

its so hard to choose just one! if i had to, i would say Hania, Crete because it has all of the things i love about greece.. beautiful beaches, history, and nightlife(: all with the charm of a cretan town. like other people mentioned, i prefer a smaller island town to a larger city..i think places like athens are fun, but not for an entire vacation. all of the northwestern part of crete is definitely amazing!

Try Symi! Fly direct to Rhodes and then take a short ferry! You wont be disappointed, we have festivals in the Summer!

Athens for sheer variety and history has to be top destination.

Thessaloniki is more of a financial city but is a very good visit, it is very busy and always hot.
However, try visiting Nafplion in the Peloponese, the old capital of Greece, it is stunning, right on the coast with castle and beautiful town centre, great food and ice cream shops.

70% of Greeks living in 2 places: Athens and Thessaloniki. Athens is the capital,has interesting history and many things to see. Thessaloniki is smaller, called as the capital of Macedonia and Northern Greece in general.In my opinion is more beautiful if you are visiting Greece only for fun.

Hands down...the greek Islands! Take the day cruise to the Islands if you don't do anything else!
