What is the best way to get cheap airfare to Europe?

I want to fly from USA (Myrtle Beach or DC) to Salzburg Austria in July 2007. Everything I've found for flights is like $1200 - $1500 per person. I've tried travel sites like sidestep, kayak, and ITA Software. I've tried flying into different locations (e.g., Frankfurt is like $1050). What can I do??

Bestfares.com usually is always the lowest. I have used it every year since 2000 and have never been disappointed. I attached a link to their Europe free stayover listing. You should be able to go from DC to Vienna for about $600 during the summer season. Anyway, I wish ypou luck, and have a good trip

The prices you are finding, like it or not are normal. It is one thing to want good prices, it is another thing to have unrealistic expectations of what you will pay. The summer is high season in Europe and the longer you wait this will only go up in price based on availability.

Prices have gone up for airfare and are going to continue to do so.

I would suggest you try contacting a local travel agent because we work with air consolidators for international travel who do not work with the general public. This doesn't mean it will be the price you want to pay and it might not be better. They have pre-contracted fares with airlines, but it is based on space that is available when checking.

Best of luck to you, but seriously you have to be realistic when it comes to price. I respect if that is more than you can spend, but the price is what it is.

Try RyanAir.com or some other airline that travels only within Europe. As much as I love sidestep for international flights, they don't search some of the smaller, domestic airlines that don't fly to the US. Then, see if you can book a cheap flight via sidestep etc. to the base city of the smaller airline.

For example, sidestep says the cheapest ticket to london in july (i just randomly selected the dates) are $837. Austrian Air has $70-90 one way tickets to salzberg. Total airfare = $907 - $927.

I'm sure you can do better if you searched more combinations of connecting cities.

You won't be able to fly directly out of Myrtle Beach. You will need to connect at least once. Try www.travelzoo.com They have GREAT deals!!

Never use travel agency if you want to save money.

Ryanair is the cheapest airline in Europe and they have a direct flight from Stanstead (London) to Salzburg. They have about 8 month window on their booking so check out when your dates open. The sooner you book the better prices you get even down to 100 $ return which i had to Porto and Tampere last July.

Usually using Ryanair requires one night in London one not both ways.(been doing it at the airport as well). You might as well spend a few night there underway, although like Cambridge is as close to Stanstead, beautiful and more affordable especially in accommodation. Accommodating in England try travelodge.com

Get a cheap flight first from DC to Stansted try priceline.com and make your bid, anything above 450-500 dollars return even in July sounds high to me. Don't worry take your time study and find your deal.

Try the air courier services. They have reduced rates. There are restrictions - but you might find a flight that fits your needs.

1. try Airhitch. I used this when I used to go to Europe, I got flights for $169 each way.

2. try priceline.com

3. try icelandair. they always had the cheapest airfare.

Good luck!!!

Try using Hotwire.com. You can opt for a set price or you can name the price you want to pay. Hotwire will go out and look to see if they can find an airline willing to accept your price. If not it'll come back and advise you to submit another price and it will give you a suggestion as to what to start with. It's the cheapest way I've found to travel because sometimes airlines will accept your price if they aren't sold out for a flight and they want to fill up the plane. You may have to stop 3 or 4 times and change planes but it's worth it if you get a great price.
