Corfu (Greek: Κέρκυρα - Kérkyra) is a prefecture of Greece. It consists of the islands of Corfu, Paxoi, Othonoi and several smaller islands, all in the Ionian Sea. The prefecture is part of the periphery Ionian Islands. The capital of the prefecture is Corfu Town. |

Corfu Town is the capital of Corfu, but there are many lovely places around the Island. My personal favourite is a place called Kassiopi over to the east area of the island. Also try Acharavi, and Paleokastritsa.
Best thing would be to hire a car, and really get around the Island. Find out for yourself where you love. You WILL find a place perfect for your stay. Enjoy... I am jealous. |

Corfu Town. If you're headed to Corfu, don't go to Kavos, it's horrible. |

Most Greek Islands use the main Island name as the captial, ie Rhodes = Rhodes Town. Corfu = Corfu Town. Zakynthos = Zakynthos Town. However, I don't think this is the case in ALL of them. |

Apparently it's known as Corfu Town. Here's some info
Modern Corfu Town is upbeat and cosmopolitan, offering an exciting conglomeration of Greek, Italian, French and British influences. The old town was laid out by the Venetians in the 14th century and features narrow alleys lined with multi-storeyed pastel-coloured buildings with red tiled roofs, creating a scene reminiscent of Italy. The hub of activity in the town centre is the Liston, an arcaded row of cafes and restaurants, copied from the Rue de Rivoli in Paris. |

Corfu Town is THE capital but most people reckon Paleokastritsa is as big and as lively for clubbing, scenery and beaches especially. |
