by train, a return ticket costs 6,20 euro. it takes about 20 minutes, and there are trains roughly every 6 minutes.

Schiphol - Amsterdam Centraal

Ha! one I can genuinely answer at last. Back in 98 I went to Amsterdam for a weekend. Flight delayed 5 hours, so got sh*tfaced at airport. drank bottle of vodka on plane. arrested at schipol by very helpful dutch police, who drove me to my hotel. free!!!

toolgrrl03
take the train..fast...cheap..easy it takes u from Schipol to Grand Central! Enjoy!

Train .... the train station is inside the airport itself, it was 6 euro return the last time I went and takes about 20 minutes to Centraal Station ... everything is within walking distance from there.

A taxi from outside the airport to Leidesplein is 30 euros.

Have fun!

http://www.ns.nl or Nederlandse Spoorwegen- the train. You can take the Stoptrein from Schiphol to Amsterdam Centraal for EUR 3 for a one-way ticket.

There are also some hotels who offer complimentary shuttle to the city from the airport and if you are booked to stay in a hotel, you could check on their shuttle/ airport-hotel transfer service.

by train . use the ticket machines, or queue up at the ticket counters in the station , if you do use the counter use the first counter on the left!
link to how to use ticket machines below.

let the train take the strain and look at the marvellous buildings on your right nearly all the way into DAM

The absolute cheapest way is trying to get a lift from someone.

The next best thing is indeed the train.
For 6,20 you have a return.
For 3,60 a single trip (if you stay more than a day, take a single)

The convenience is awesome.
Out of the plane, you don`t need to go outside, you just go from the gates to the trains.
They leave at least every 15 minutes to Amsterdam Centraal - which deposits you in the heart of Amsterdam.

Easy, relatively cheap, and very convenient.

As others have said, take the train, you get the ticket in the front lobby area of airport then take escalator down below airport to catch train, once arrive at central station leave train and go out front, either take a tram if its more than a few blocks or just walk, if have alot of bags take a cab from train station to hotel.

The cheapest way is to walk.
As has been said, though, the train is an easy option. I've never used it because the only time I flew to Amsterdam was before there was a rail link. These days I travel there by coach, and that deposits me very close to a Metro station.
