Half the price of the uk easily. Plenty of Brits and Irish retiring out there. Your pound or your euro goes a long way. There is no problem at all about buying a house out there as long as it's not near a military instillation. Some areas even have utility bills printed in English now to make things easier. |

It depends have you live but Turkey is not expensive.
Marlboro is less than 2 pound.
Whit one pound you can buy 10 breads . |

Much cheaper than the UK, however wages are less. Housing can be difficult to buy due to past restrictions on immigrants buying but that has greatly reduced upon their application to join the EEC.
A beautiful country with warm friendly people. Muslim country so be prepared for some cultural differences, I loved the place when I visited and would love the opportuity to return. |

I'm moving to Brussels and I'm officially informed that the cost of living is 81% cheaper in Istanbul than Brussels. In terms of actual living, it may be less than half of Europe. Fresh vegetables and fruits are available all year and extremely cheap compared to Europe. And the tomatoes are red. Real red. If you have a car, you can buy or rent excellent flats or houses a little outside of the city for a very good price. |

On average I would say about half the cost of the UK. |

You will find most items are 50% cheaper than in the UK.
Buyer’s tax: Between 1.5% and 3% of the sale agreement price
Government tax: From €150 - €750
Property tax: Based on property type and location, it is approximately 0.5% to 0.6% of the property price (paid yearly)
Utility connection fee: Based on property type/location, between €300 and €500
Earthquake insurance: Since much of Turkey is in an earthquake zone, this insurance is required by law and depends on property price and location
Promising a low cost of living, as well as cheap property with good growth potential, Turkey could become a key market for retirees. Those who plan to stay in the property for more than three months will need to leave the country and re-enter to re-new their visa - although property owners living in Turkey can buy a residency visa for one year (from £240 or £915 for five years). Those looking to set up a business will still need to apply for a residency visa and work permit. |

Generally it is cheaper but varies from place to place it is higher in the big resorts.Property is cheaper and things like council tax(I pay £27 a year). It is definitely less than UK where I couldn't live on my pension but I live very well here. |

lving in turkey is very cheap for poor people , but it is really expensive for rich people.
a nice new apartment in a urban area , like polat towers , will cost you alot. the homes arent as expensive as rest of europe maybe but they are still pricey. electronics can cost up to triple the price in the US . clothes in malls can be expenisve as well.
it really depends on the life style you have. if you want rich, then it is expensive , if you want poor then it is cheap.
1500 liras is a decent income than can support a family of 3
a decent apartment will cost you any where from 350 to 650 a month. if you shop at farmers markets for food , you can save more money. if you buy your clothes from cheap gehto markets then you will get the same thing from the mall for 70 percent off. |

I really do wish that people that answer questions here get there facts correct.
frankturk50, you might have paid £27 equivalent in poll tax, well mines 15YTL which is approx £5.50 a year so i dont know why his is so high.
Where purple pompy get there figures from i dont know, the official average wage in Turkey is now £24 a week. If you come & live here as a tourist then obviously you need enough to live on as though you are on holiday.
As for sparksairs statment that Turkey is a muslim country its not. Its a seculer country, any one is free to practice there own religion freely.
Alan r, his answer is only partly correct, none nationals can only buy land & property within a Belediye (municipality) To buy outside a Belediye to have to register a company then the company can purchase the land or property.
Why people write incorrect or incomplete answers i don't know, when a person asks a question here they want the correct answer, not a guess from people that either have no idea or know the facts |
