the russian currency is "ruble" or "rubl", if pronounced in russian. 1 rubl=100 kopeek.
What about the exchange rates, people here gave you "official" exchange rate, means the one that was fixed by the government. Bank rate is different. Today the exchange rate to buy is 26,6 rubles per 1 usd and the rate to sale is 27 rubles per 1 usd. |

Its the rouble like everyone is saying. Also- people there really like receiving pounds, euros, or dollars. Not everyone, but many.
Also- just use your ATM card. Most machines will give you roubles or euros and the exchange rate is great. Cashing travelers checks is archaic and suspect, and can take over an hour of standing in line and then filling out forms. |

I have to disagree with Yeremey a little. I lived in Moscow and Yekaterinburg for a few years and I got the best exchange rate at the smaller places in the city centre. Hes right though...don't exchange at the airport..rates are bad. The banks will give you a good rate but in my experience its generally less than what the smaller places offer. I dont have Russian on this PC but look for signs that say Obmen ( looks like ObmeH). They will almost always post the exchange rates above the window. Yeremey could be correct though..I left Russia in 2003 and things may have changed. |

The currency is Russian Rouble. The exchange rate is approximately 26.50 roubles per US dollar. Be warned, however, not to excvhange currency at the airport or in the center of the city or other such places. The only exception to this are bank offices such as Sberbank (Green round logo), where the exchange rate is same in all places. Otherwise, you may end up getting 20 roubles for one dollar |
