Cyprus is an island in the eastern Mediterranean. It got its name because of the copper deposits found there in antiquity. It is also one o the contestants for the birthplace of Aphrodite (Kythera being the other). Cypress is a tall thin wedged shaped tree very common in the Med.

Cyprus also known as Kibris is an Island in the Eastern Med just off the Turkish Coast.
The Cypress tree is a tree.

The island is a wonderful place to visit rich in history and despite the rubbish statements in one of your answers has never been a part of Greece.

Yes there is a border between the 2 sides of the Island but for various reasons both sides claim it is not a border! You have to show passports / ID to cross and are subject to customs and immigration checks but it is definitely not a border.

Cyprus is a country where in one half Greek and the other half Turkish population resides. Although there has been conflicts between the two populations in the past decade, there exists a definite border between two sides currently. Unfortunately, the Turkish Cyprus is not recognized by many nations as a sovereign state.

Cypress is a beautiful tree that grows in the Mediterranean coasts. There are many other types of this tree across the board in the world.

I am not sure if the two words are linguistically related, belonging to the same root or family of origin. A quick search online may lead you to its discovery.

Good luck

Cypress is a tree mostly found in the everglades of Florida, USA.
Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean, 70kms south of Turkey. The two major communities living on the island are Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, with small minorities of Armenians, Maronites, and Latins.
There have been tragic events between the Greek and Turkish communities in the recent past, resulting in thousands of dead, injured and displaced people from both sides.
After the events of 1974, Turkish Cypriots moved to the north and Greek Cypriots moved to the south (summit agreement in 1976), resulting in a de facto division.
The island came very close to a solution three years ago, when the UN plan (called the Annan plan) was put to referenda, but was rejected by the Greek Cypriots with a 75% vote (Turkish Cypriots voted 65% yes).
The Green Line (or the so-called border) now has a few checkpoints through which people can cross by showing their IDs. Peace activists on both sides are still working hard to establish a better understanding between the two communities.

Cyprus is a country in Europe, it is also called Chipre and it was part of the Greek empire. Cypress is a type of tree found mainly in marshy areas like Florida's everglades (Cypress gardens is a major attraction there)
