What is the easiest way to get from Krakow to Auschwitz?

It costs about 22 zloty (Â£4.10) return by train to Oswiecim. It is then about a 20 minute walk to Auschwitz from there. Remember to leave ample time to visit Birkennau camp, which is the extermination camp. If you do go please be respectful, both sites are free to wander round and are kept as a reminder to the suffering the Jews endured. It is a wonderful rail journey too as you go through some wooded countryside and get a real feel for how people must have felt during the war.

We visited the camps about two weeks ago and took the train then walked to both camps so it isn't difficult to do and it is MUCH cheaper than an organised trip. We also walked round the camps on our own, without a guide so we weren't being told were to go at what time etc.

You can either go on an organised tour or get a bus or train from Auschwitz. Organised trips can be booked through hotels or the tourist office in the middle of the main square. Rent a car for the day and drive there its not very far about an hours drive, you can park at the museum or you could rent for two days and see zakopane.

Go to the bus station. It is right next to--and I mean RIGHT next to--the main train station. I think you want bus #14. DO NOT buy a "package" from the crook at the station. You get a tour at the camp. You'll notice a lot of foreigners. Follow the crowd and you should be fine. This bus takes you right to the camp.

Train seems the best option. You can go to http://www.pkp.pl/ which is a website for Polish rail. Please note that Auschwitz in Polish is Oswiecim. Therefore I would recommend to go from Krakow (Krakow Glowny - main train station in Krakow) to Oswiecim. When you check teh availability: "z" means from, "do" means to, data means date, godzina means hour.

I have been to Auschwitz about 14 years ago and I don't really remember the way as we have travelled by car, but you won't regret seen that place!!!!!
