What is the most interesting place you have ever visited?

I went to finland once. the opportunity presented itself in the form of an exchange student at my school. we became friends, and she invited me to come stay with her over the summer. i had money coming to me from my parents because of a long standing rule in my house (i may make a question about it one day, so you know what im talking about) so i took the opportunity and went to finland. i stayed mainly near helsinki, but i also went north a little bit. i had the time of my life and saw all sorts of stuff i wouldnt have seen if i were just a tourist and not staying with someone. i went to lots of local nightspots and resturants, and not just the touristy places. ever since then i miss it so much! so, what is the most interesting place you have ever visited?

It was here in the US, but was one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. We went to Seattle and took a fairy to an Island named Orcas Island, a few hours from Seattle. We went sailing, took a sea plane and seen a Pod of Orcas Whales, seen spotted seals (dont no the correct name) Went up to Mount Constitution and seen Bald Eagles, Wild life was everywhere, the view was incredible. In Seattle it was fun watching the athletes train for the Olympics (Rowing). And MUCH more!

I don't have money to travel these days. But before I moved out, I spent a ton of money on a 4 day trip to San Francisco with my friend. I don't know about interesting, but it was incredibly fun. Even now, when I could really use that $1100 I spent on that trip for more important things, like car repairs, I do not regret going. The memories are worth it.

I read somewhere, that you are better off spending your money on memories than things. You won't remember that awesome expensive designer outfit nearly as fondly as if you had spent it on a trip, or even just a wonderful night out with your guy.

Mt. Apo - the tallest Philippine peak. Being on top of Mt. Apo is a very wonderful experience, it seems you are in the sky and you could almost touch the clouds. But before you embark on the trip you must prepare physically. The view from the top sure takes your breath away, but if you're not physically fit, getting there could take your breath away, literally..

The underground burial chambers for the sacred bulls in Memphis, Egypt.

I have been to a lot of places in Egypt, both the tourist places, and the ones of the beaten path, but that is the most interesting place I have ever been, I think.

I was an exchange student in Japan one summer.

It was nice, because I had never really been anywhere with so many people.

Avignion, France. I fell in love with the walled city. It was like living in the olden, very olden days. I found the history to be totally fantastic. I learned so much about two religions (Catholics and Jews) and got to see so much of what I had studied throughout my years of school.
The people were wonderful and even though it had a bit of the tourist trap to it, there was enough of reality to it that I didn't feel like I was in Disneyland.
I would love to go back and spend more than just three days, it just wasn't enough.

The most interesting place I ever visited was Berchtesgaden. My oldest daughter was married to a military person stationed in Germany, and my youngest daughter was a member of the military stationed in Germany. In 1987, I went to Germany to visit them. At that time, the U.S. military had control of property just below Hitler's Eagle's Nest in Salzberg, Germany: a massive hotel and training facility that had been used by the Nazi regime. The hotel had been the site of many Nazi parties. Under the hotel was a tunnel of bunkers under construction for the defense of the German army. Many personally owned properties, which were confiscated by Hitler and his associates, (returned to their owners after WWII), have bunkers that were constructed under them. The present owners charge a fee for the public to view these.

The part of of the Alps viewable from this site is spectacular. There are skiing slopes open to the public, the Salzberg Salt Mine is open for tours, water tours of The Sea of Konnisberg are available; and, at certain times of the year, there are tours of Hitler's Eagle's Nest.

This is a wonderfully beautiful part of Germany; very close to the Austrian border. No wonder Hitler made his primary home there. Outlines of the homes of Martin Borman and other elite Nazis are also visible. The Allies, of course, bombed this area at the end of WWII to wipe out all vestiges of Hitler and his regime.

From the Salzberg, I traveled to Dachau, one of the heinous concentration camps. The camp, of course, is not as it was during WWII. One re-created prison barracks is there, plus one original building that housed German troops, and one facility that housed the ovens. The most amazing thing to me is that there is a Catholic convent on the premises. The most peaceful of the relics was the area that housed the ovens. When I was there, birds were singing, the grass was green, and flowers were blooming in the gardens! There was a sense of peace there, even though horrendous acts had been executed.

My daughter, her boyfriend, and I spent the night in a German inn in Dachau, Hotel-Gasthof Drei Lowen. I still have the hotel card. We enjoyed a German dinner, translated by a German waitress, and a German breakfast, included with the price of the room

The Audobon was also exhilirating. There is no upper speed limit there; but, you can be penalized for going too slow!

The German people suffered tremendous personal loss in WWI and WWII, and they are not easily forgiving, even though their leaders were responsible for much of their misfortune. If you travel to Germany, expect to see spectacular sites; but, also expect to experience animosity; especially for anyone associated with the the Allied Armies.
