If vodka drinking determined national character, Russia would not have gone as far as it had. So no, I would not say that it is the MOST RUSSIAN thing to do. It is just one of the cultural attributes.

To me, the most Russian thing to do is to....endure. If you think about it, historically, few nations have been through more wars, occupations, regime changes and ideological twists than Russia. Yet, people endured, and in many ways survived only because this is a part of national psychie. To add, Russian women are always praised for their patience and will to endure, as many take emotional, psychological and physical abuse from men for years in the name of...love.

Russian communities in the West are almost always successful and ahead of others. I think it is because we can endure more (in terms of work load); we can take the dirties job and do it well, and take boss's yelling and still come to do the job, demonstrating great work ethics.

So to me that is the most Russian thing to do of all. Surely, I've done it quiet a lot myself. :)

The most common Rusian thing to do, mostly among males, is to get drunk and to fight. yaeh, that's the way we entertain each other. just like Elton John sang "saturday is a good day for fighting", every drunk night is the one! This is the real Russian way to spend the time. I'm sorry.

Why don't russians get drunk as much as westerners? Because they always have something to eat after each shot (except for after the first one). The food has to have a lot of fats in it and be warm. Fats work their way to protect liver form getting too intoxicated.

I'm with Evil J, drinking vodka is a pretty Russian thing 2 do, and when i say drink vodka, i mean sip it fast and not get drunk from the first glass.
