Religion and state are separate in Turkey. Women are not allowed to wear headscarves at school, universities etc.
The religion also stipulates that alcohol may be consumed for medicinal purposes, even a broken heart;) |

99% of the population is Muslim (UN stats), but I have a bunch of Turkish friends, and none of them wore headscarves, in fact they also wore short skirts and drank alcohol, so they were pretty liberal! And my boyfriend is Turkish and he says, because Turkey is a secular state, Islam is not so enforced, and women don't feel such pressure to wear headscarves. Then again, I watched a BBC documentary recently, about Turkey, and I'd say about 40% of the women were wearing headscarves.
I wonder why you want to know? |

Turkish women have to be completely covered at all times. What do you think about this joke i just made up?
Q: Why didnt the Turkish woman dress up as a ghost for Halloween?
A: Because she said the point of Halloween is to go as something different from what you look like the rest of the year |
