The point of small nations is that they can maintain their local customs/laws/traditions, rather than being forced to conform to a larger norm. I don't advocate creating new small nations, but where they exist surely it should be for the citizens to decide if they wish to continue to exist or be subsumed in some larger nation? |

That's on odd way to phrase a question about a country...Why does the existence of a country have to have a point? It just is...it has its own culture, its own economy, its own government, its own capital, its own language...and obviously many people believe it's pretty important as it was named, along with Sibiu, European Cultural Region and Capital for 2007. Oh and it just so happens that Luxembourg is the wealthiest country in the world with an extremely low unemployment rate...so they must be doing something right...maybe we can learn a thing or two from them, no? |
