Officially it's the New Turkish Lira. The currency was revalued a couple of years ago, and all those 0's disappeared of the end of the notes, which was the first and only time I had about 500,000,000 Lira in my wallet. It's a lot more stable than it once was. No more rampant inflation.

In practice though, and especially in tourist shops and areas, you can use almost any currency going. US Dollars, UK Pounds, and increasingly the Euro, are the currencies to have as extras in addition to the Turkish Lira. Scottish and Northern Irish notes are rarely accepted, just English ones. The locals will quote you a price in any currency you have on you at the time. Just make sure that you know what each is worth.

YTL Yeni TĂĽrk Lirasi
The new lira is subdivided into 100 new kuruĹź (yeni kuruĹź).
It was introduced on 1 January 2005, replacing the previous lira (which remained valid in circulation until the end of 2005) at a rate of 1 new lira = 1,000,000 old lira.

Turkey's national monetary unit is LIRA (ytl)

1 dollar is equal to 1.3 ytl
1 euro is equal to 2 ytl
1 Eng. pound is equal to 2.5 ytl.

for more: http://www.doviz.com

You can exchance your money here easily in exchance offices. In touristic places like Antalya you don't need it because such places are quite international and commonly all monetary units are accepted.

You have to use Turkish Lira under normal conditions and at normal places like a fast food restaurant or supermarket. They will not accept any foreign currency.
However in tourist shops or tourist places in the cities of Turkish Riviera, it is possible to use foreign currency(Euro,us dollar or english pound..they would not accept Malaysian Ringitt no I don't think so).
Finally, turkish people are familiar with U.S dollar and Euro and plenty of exchange offices can be found in every city.

Angel ! in Silver !!
You can use or change most currencies.one Turkish lira is worth about 60 pence.
Your holiday money will go a long way food and local beers wines and spirits are very cheap..The Turkish people are very genuine kind people..I have been going for 4-5 years now,, they always remember you and are very friendly,,,,have a wonderful time...fantastic copies of Prada, Viutton ,Dior etc,,,heaven"""
