Although not really known and highly underrated... Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. It's hard to describe, but it definitely has a vibe to it. Most people don't know what to expect when they go there but eventually they say "I'll be back". It's not as big as other capitals (population of 450.000) but it has everything you need... a beautiful historic city centre, great restaurants, some very hot clubs and by far the most beautiful women. And it's not yet flooded with tourists like Vienna, Prague or Budapest are. Plus, the three cities are within (respectively) 1h, 4h and 2h drives away from Bratislava.
In fact, for anybody going to Europe, this region - Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary & Slovakia is a must see. Great people, 4 capitals within a 300 km (180 miles) radius, culture, nightlife... i could go on. But see for yourself. |

Vienna, Austria. It is full of the arts, paiting, ballet, music, every sort of art there is available, the food is unbelieveable, the public transit is excellent, the city is historic, clean, and beautiful. The pedestrian zone is huge. And their coffee is out of this world! I loved it there! |

Difficult to pick one because all the answers already provided are wonderful cities so it comes down to personal preference.
For me, my vote has to be for Rome. It is the one city I can visit time and time again and never get bored. Not to mention never get hungary! The sights, the history, the people, the food, the nightlife - to me it has it all. |

Definitely ISTANBUL. It had been the capital of 3 empires and has all the effects of those empires. It has a wonderful view over Bosphorus which combines the two continents. It's the only city in the world which extends both on Europe and on Asia. Due to its 3000 year old history it is one of the oldest cities of the world. It has a mild climate, warm both in spring and summer. One can taste the most delicious cousine of the world there. Friendly people, excellent night life with lots of modern clubs, restaurants and open discos. You can try high speed ferries or nostalgic ships to visit the islands nearby e.g. Princess islands. If you are interested in opera and ballet they are continuing throughout the year. Newsweek recently named Istanbul the ''hippest city of Europe''. It is one of the coolest cities in the world. By the way, both the food and the accommodation are inexpensive and you get value for money. Transportation is very easy and the taxi fares are really cheap. |
