What is your opinion about Russia?

Have you ever been to Russia? What were your impressions of the country and people? That's a beautiful country with deep and hospitable people, isn't it? I love it! It's pity that many people have prejudices not anyhow proved by reality and their own experiences.

My father's father (my grampa) immigrated to the U.S. from there in the 1920's. I have met many Russian people, and they have all been wonderful people. My brother-in-law has been there and he wants to return and show it off to his daughter (my niece), and she also wants to go there. The closest I have been is Alaska (and Alaska is actually pretty close to Russia)... that is where I have met Russian people and the the shops they have and the beautiful things they sell that are from Russia.

I have read stuff by Aleksandr Sol- and here's where I will try and spell it right - Solzhenizen (I know I spelled it wrong)... and I agree with what he wrote of Russia many years ago. He said that Russia is like a man. And the government is like a cancer on the man. Meaning, Russia is a land and a people. It is a beautiful land and a beauitiful people. But the government is like a cancer on the people. I know he spoke of the USSR government. But I believe that Putin is as bad as the USSR.

I was in the Russian Far East several years ago and found the people wonderful. There was some political upheaval but the people were incredibly stoic inspite of the difficulties. The people are hard working and very beautiful. I enjoyed my time there but the living conditions were difficult.

There was a problem with striking coal workers and so heat wasn't functioning in the houses all the time. Also the water wasn't always on and often there was no hot water. Food was expensive and there were long lines to get it. The people were helpful and cheerful inspite of all the difficulties.

Strong people.

i want to answer this question by quoting a billboard sign i saw in the moscow sheremetyevo airport:
"it is another world."

My wife is Russian ..I find the people there very friendly and helpful.I found I felt safer there than here in England..it is a poor country with bad roads and shoddy housing..like england in the fiftys..however the people try their best to keep looking smart and neat even in old clothes..they take time to make up,and the girls look spectacular..

We are nice people in very nice place))

I love the country. I lived there for the first 9 years of my life. It is truly beautiful in all aspects. The people are very friendly and hospitable. If you ever get a chance, I suggest you visit and see for yourself.

I have never been there, but my husband and I plan to go someday. I think they are having a difficult time, but I also think they will be able to pull themselves back up and become a thriving country again. You cannot blame the people entirely for the government's doings. I have been to China, and the people there were amazingly friendly and sweet. I think they have alot of culture and history to share and look forward to seeing Russia in person.

Don't believe the stupid pro-capitalist crap people say about USSR being a disease to the people. Russia was a lot more prosperous and powerful under the communist system. I have heard many Russians saying how they miss those Soviet years. And there's one Ethiopian student who claimed how much better Russia used to be decades ago.

Note, I am NOT saying that communism is good.

i have been to russia for a short time but until i was almost 6, i lived in ukraine (right next to russia) and it has been pretty great. both russia and ukraine are great places to travel to. the people over there are depending on what part of the country or city you are in. i hope to visit my hometown pretty soon. hope my opinion helped.

whoa mamma!!!
Excellent question. I have never been to Russia but I have a feeling they are different there than they are once they arrive here. I have alot of Russians in my area and they are not as nice as all the ones meantioned above. I find them to be rude, pushy and most that I have met have an attitude of entitlement. I can't understand it. No offense intended , just my experience with all my "neighbors"
