People should mind more important things than the dressing styles.
It's their own choice. And to hate someone because of something they wear or they don't wear is far too shallow. |

They look so funny and believe me, they reveal more than they cover up when wet. |

saw once , gosh i coulnt believe me eyes... horrible ..... ewwwww.. thats how i feel.... but at the end its their choice.. if they wanna swim like that and feeling comfy in them i dont really care.. if i can lay on the beach topless, why shouldnt they also wear funny swimming suits ? |

i totally agree with ipek and morticia, you would get more attention wearing them. because everybody else is wearing a bikini or swimsuit, and there's only one or two people who wear these hashemas. so you automatically have to look at the different one. also, when they come out of the sea, you can see every single part of the body, including cellulites! LOL just kidding, that would be too detailed. but still it becomes tight when you come out of the water. never tried it, i guess i never would... |

I find them really ugly. |

They're fine. When i was a kid my friends' grandmother wore one but never got in the pool. When we asked them if she could swim they said "only in the Dead Sea".
That's true.
What's funny though is that more than once when it was time to go home my mother sent me to the showers to wash the chlorine out of my hair and the grandmother was in the shower NAKED washing herself. I was freaked out because I was just a kid and she was a naked old woman with long gray hair. When i think about it now it's funny. |

Also Muslim women who prefer to wear hijab deserve a holiday where they can swim as well.
On the other hand not everybody has his own private ranch on the sea side. So for those women that follow the Islamic dress code there is only one option left, that is the so called Islamic swimming costume . I think I wouldn´t make fun of them if they wore one since I know they are opting for this out of reason. However if worn in a public beach with other men and women around, who don´t care about how much of their body shows, than it´s pointless. I suppose you as a practising Muslim would have to close your eyes in such a place too.
If you are wearing one because of your belief than you should avoid public beaches in the first place.
It´s not about what other people don´t get to see, it´s about what YOU get to see. |

how i would react if i saw one;
i would give her an extremely weird look, telling what the hell are you wearing? cause i have no idea how this so called swimming costumes look like |

Everybody to wear whatever he/she likes as long as it is not against the traditions and the general politeness of a country.
PS: It is again the matter of how to respect. People should learn the concept to respect others so others to respect them for what they are doing, without attacking each other. |

I'm Macedonian!!!

hm... i've never heard that they exist. i know that some muslim women use clothings for swimming. can you send me some links to see how they look like? i'm really interested...
About you, if you like them and feel nice wearing them, don't bother what others think...
all the best and have great time on your vacation :o)
warm regards from Macedonia |

I hate them. I detest them. They go out of the sea you see every part of their body very detailed but they say that it is better than bathing suit. And they say that they don't want to take attention but because they are very weird everybody looks at them more than they look at the people with bikinis.
There can not be a clothing like this in Ataturk's Turkiye! |

ive seen women wearing them in alanya they are just like a wetsuit .the tourists were looking at them but they dont see them at home . i think they are a good idea it is hot in turkiye and the women should be allowed to cool down in the sea |

it attracks more attention and people look at them more then a normal lady wearing a swimming suit or bikini.
I believe to wear close according to the style of the place so that you will blend in .
any how the choice is yours but i have been to mant arab countries and know many arab ladies and i have never seen Hashema on them . |

i'd say you'd better not put those on an average beach. because you'll be stared at and despised by some people... (unless you go to some beaches that are rumored to be for different sexes, i have never heard of them unfortunately)
by the way my eyes tell that they suck, because they are not fashionable.
have fun here in turkey! and welcome, of course!
cheers
(p.s: here is a dilemma of mine. i try to be open-minded about them, that religious muslim women may want to swim, but they're religious women wearing the tiniest bikini possible as well. it's just an issue of interpreting religion, i wonder why then, we, muslim men can wear trunks without any hesitation, won't any gal get "interested" in us?) |

From the wide array of reactions, you can see how people are going to react - some think its great, some wil be curious, some will stare unashamedly - you wanted to know how Turks would react, so there you have it.
If you are thinking of wearing one, I think it is a fine idea. Just like Sultan M. said, a lady with hijab also has the right to go swimming and so if she can do it like this, why not?? He also had a point about where you do it, though - a crowded beach may be an inappropriate place to be anyway. That is where you WILL get stared at. There are many smaller beaches & coastal areas which are not very busy, if you know where to find them. My opinion - go for it. It is becoming more and more popular, so it is not as though you are "one of a kind" there. I have even seen (older) women go into the sea with all of their clothes on (!) so to me this just makes more sense. Hope you have a great vacation!!
(to Tramp: WHAT in the WORLD is your problem? "Human Rights?"- that´s tolerance for you!! LOL) |

I don't really care that much...it's not as bad as what I saw at the beach today. Some girl was wearing a bikini thong and it was really nasty. :-( |

I have not seen one tho, I would not make fun of it, cos in this day an age you should be aloud to ware what u want as long as you can see a body shape. But in my opinion I would prefer a bikini bizz -nes if you know what I mean. |

Not too becoming for my taste. Of course I won't make fun of them but I'm sure to be staring for some time, simply because I haven't seen a person wearing one. Others who haven't would stare as well.
Turkey a secular country anyway or is it your personal preference to wear one of those? |
