What kind of food do the Netherlands eat?

giliga
Mayonnaise and chips is one of the favorites (or this combi of mayonnaise, raw onions and peanut butter).
The veg , potato and meat combi, that all people above said.
For example: red cabbage with apples, potato's and meatballs. or spinach with Bacon, potato's and some kind of pork.
As well lickerish and sweets.... in the morning you eat bread with butter and a layer of chocolate sprinkle or cheese (cant forget the cheese).
Anything backed with apple, especially Apple pie.
Fresh Herring (Matias fish).
And drink a lot of milk and tea.

kaassoufles!!!! MMMMMMMM!! oh you made me hungry.

If you wanna try some Dutch products in the USA look here: http://www.littledutchgirl.com/
I hope it works.

mostly we eat things with potato, vegetable and meat for dinner and a lot of bread for breakfast and lunch. pancake for weekend. and bitterballen if you're hungry in the bar or kroket if you dont have to eat but you're hungry so you can get it from food machine from the walls ;)

nowdays - we eat - everything..... a lof of rice, curry and noodles.

Where am I?
I am a dutchperson who've moved to the US. The food I missmost are the 'stampot with rookworst( Hema)', which is mashed potatoes with andives, or carrots and onions.
Besides that I miss licorice, the real ones, not like red vines, which isn't licorice.
The fresh fish and all the good dairy products at reasonable prices.
The Netherlands grows mainly their own produce, have fish in the sea next to them and grow grain to make the best bread on earth, especially fresh from the bakery in the morning which nice young cheese or the very old crumbly one.
At home growing up we would eat, potatoes, veggies and meat and gravy poured over your potatoes. and the good dairies for dessert.

gjmb1960
at home i eat vegetables + potatoes + meat and yoghurt. or pasta , or indian curry , or rice anything i can find in store is ok, but usually the traditional vegetables + potatoes + meat.

Sassybaby
Everything. They use to be very picky about their food, potatoes, veggies and meat only. Now it is everything Americans eat. Hamburgers, pizza, chinese food. indonesian food, turkish food etc.

Gaby
there is no particular food that htey eat, though they love the Indonesian food (they have many Indonesian restaurants.
One more thing - they are called Dutch not Netherlands.

Now, I know most people don't really like wikipedia. But this one is quite accurate: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_cuisine

dutchcutie68
we eat just about anything really, we used to be picky in the old days, ate a lot of cabbages, like kale, sourcrout, andive etc those mixed up with potatoes and gravy. now since we are the melting pot of europe here with people from all over the world we eat everything and we are good in fushion cooking hahaha
yes we still eat mayonaise with our fries, you gotta try it, it's not like the mayo you have in the states thatyou put on sandwiches, it's different but soooooooooooo good
