What makes you happy?

what makes you happy? By this i mean is what makes you get up everyday not knowing what will happen or knowing everthing will be the same. Im a teenager in a new york high school snd iv recently noticed i dont feel like doing anything like now when im with my close friends i feel dont talk to them hardly because i dont what to talk about.i guess i feel scared on how my life will work out and not knowing how it will work out scares me. I feel low alot of the times.so could you give me advice on being happy and not feeling depressed. thanks for ur advice greatly appreciated.

from time to time i feel the same way your feelings.About my friends,my future... i feel depressed so something must be changed.You can change the places of the furniture in your room.Change your posters on the wall and clean your room.That always affects like an anti-depresan on me.Small changes makes big affects on your mood.

you can call your old friends that you haven't contacked recently,buy yourself a new pair of sneakers and go to a restaurant and have a good meal.This is what i do to feel myself better when i'm upset,and it really works! it really makes you feel allright and helps you to concantrate on your works.

Find a hobby (for me,its art and drawing)
Also,if possible,get a pet(so you kinda have to get up everyday and feed it)
Go and meet up with your friends(go to a movie so you dont have to talk...or talk about celebrities or the perfect match ffor you)thats usually fun
And dont stress too much on the future
make good decisons and find something about yourself u love

Sometimes I do too feel the same like you, feeling down and really do not hv anything to interact to anyone. This feeling I guess connected with the mood. During times like this, I will try to converting my low mood to something that I like either its my hobby, or just simply browse around internet to look at the things that fascinate me. Communicates through forum or this type of column really helps too.
Do not drag your self and mind to hit the rock bottom when you feeling low, if you feel that you're afraid or worried facing tomorrow, then do something positive today.
Doesn't matter if you feel solitare once in a while, its just a phase that everybody need to face too.
If you're a religious kid, just rely on God for tomorrow problems. Anyway it is something that you can not control nomatter how hard you try living a positive life. But atleast positive life may boost up your low feeling.
When my brother pass away, it was the lowest feeling i ever experience, makes me think that what is it for to live a life as it may ended down there in the grave, laying there alone, no friends and family can accompany. But these experience tells me that it is actually when you're alive then you can mean something for your friends and family, it is what we have done that effect around us.
So hope you didnt continue feeling depressed, scared of facing tomorrow and low feeling anymore, sharing may help you feel better. Take care!

I went through the same feelings when I was a teenager and trust me the prospect of passing that phase and moving on with your life as an adult really made me happy as I understood life and what it had to offer BETTER!!!

Depression. I know the feeling. It's a pain in the *** and by coming here and asking that question, you've done a much wiser thing than I ever did.

I tried for years to deal with my feelings on my own. I guess the one thing that I had way back inside of my head to keep me going was the thought that one day I would have love in my life. Not only from other people or for other people but especially for myself. I knew that in order for me to be happy I would have to learn how to love myself.

Like many people in the world, I believe I had a chemical imbalance which you may have as well. There are drugs out there can have been known to help correct these imbalances and coupled with counselling, can resolve your depression in time.

Nothing happens over night. I learned that the Prozac did help my mood, but I was still unhappy with my life until I started to reinvolve myself in my friends' lives and making an intentional impact in the lives of all those who loved me. I then started to see my own personal value in the lives of others, which allowed me to really open up to them and realise that life is short and I need to losen up and just forget my damn problems as much as I could and focus on the positive things in my life. As I did this, the problems seemed to automatically become smaller and the good things became more important to me. I began to have a revalation.

Once I began to see that I had significance in the lives of others, I began to feel it myself. I'm not happy all the time. I still have my ups and downs, but I'm never quite as low as I could be. I think I found hope.

Ah, yes and when things get emotional and you start to feel hopeless, throw on a jacket or whatever and just head outside. Start walking in no particular direction and observe everything you can. Breathe deep and take in the world. Try to ground your emotions and feel something positive from simply the things around you, nothing more.

Try at this moment to appreciate your life and if you can't, you really may need professional help.

For me I suppose I just really want to get into Stuy, and I'm taking the test on August 27th..... however before that I suppose I got up because I think of the things that I want to do, but haven't yet sone, like getting into Harvard, and maybe learning to suba dive, that ikinda thing... Hope this helps you out..... but remember how would life be intresting if you knew everthing that was gonna happen? You'd never be surprised at your surprise b-day party and you'd never be able wonder what was gonna ahppen tommrow.

What makes me happy is my family and friends. If I didn't have them I don't know where I'd be. The secret of life is to learn to live happily. It's different for everyone so what makes me happy might not make you happy. We all go down that road at one point and you will have to figure it out for yourself. I would suggest prayer and meditation as ways to find some peace. Try not to dwell on the negatives in your life. As a start, try to recognize one thing in your day that made you happy. Just one. It could have been a hug from a friend, a joke someone told, a letter you read, a nice thing someone said. As you do this on a regular basis, it will become easier and easier to find things in your life that bring you happiness and before you know it, you won't stop at one thing but you'll have a whole list. I've made it a goal to do this. Even if I have a really bad day, I can usually find one thing that I am really thankful for and then I feel better.
As far as being scared about your life - we all feel that. It's ok to be scared. If you're prepared, then everything will work out. Get your education, decide what you want to do and then do it. If something doesn't work out, don't beat yourself up about it - life is full of "do-overs". We all make mistakes. We stumble, we fall. Just get up and say, "Ok, I guess I shouldn't have done that. I'll try this instead".
It's all part of growing up. As far as being depressed, we all get depressed sometimes. The key is to know when your depression goes beyond the norm. You can usually tell if your friends and family start noticing your moods. I would suggest going online and checking out signs of clinical depression. You may find that your depression is just a normal part of growing up but if it isn't, then it won't go away on it's own. Try talking to a family member.

Make cool fun exictieng goals for yourself, like having a cool career, helping the less fortunate and becomeing a hero.. and you know.. travel the world and go to a cool place you always wanted to go.. baiscly make goals for your self, and think about them alot and yull be happy.

Hey, you're not alone. What makes me wanna wake up are the following things:
1. Music
2. My mom
3. My closest friends
and number 4 is the fact that i still have a life. Music makes me really happy. Good upbeat music. I was like that last semester. I just realized that being outside and discovering things i have never seen before made me really happy. My friends always cheer me up. Just thinking about the future scares me so much i think of death. Honestly that was more scary. But my best friend just said live right now, so i started being optimistic about things. I'm 21 and i have a different situation...i feel like everyday is a struggle for me but i think thats just how life is. I know i have to get through each day not only for myself but for my family, friends and loved ones as well. Thinking positive really helps a lot. Being optimistic has helped me and I'm sure it'll help you too. Focus on the positive things and not the things that makes you depressed. Even our problems and the challenges that we have to face has it's positive side. Life is not at all easy...pray for guidance and I'm sure that you'll get through it just fine.
