What medications can I take with me to turkey?

I am going on holiady to turkey, but I am on medication at the moment, and I just wanted to know what the rules were on what medications I can/cant take with me, if any? Because I heard they are quite strict at customs about taking medications into the country?

Thanks :)

If they are medications prescribed by your doctor, get your doctor to write a letter stating why you need to take those medications. You can take regular cold medicine or such. I took weight loss pills too, but they did not say anything. When you are going, you are not there when they are checking your bags. You give it in when you check in at the airport and pick it up in Istanbul. Well, I had a non-stop flight. I am sure of the procedure when you have to stop some other place and change flights. Good luck and I know you will have a great time. I sure did.

Traveling internationally has risks. Medication must be a necessary item in order for you to take with you. Therefore, contact your doctor who prescribed the meds and have him to write a letter stating the necessity. Once you are in receipt of the letter, make copies and carry it with you. You might contact the USA Consulate's office and ask them. I'm sure they will give you assistance in the "need to know" query.

Make sure that they are prescription and that you have a doctor's number handy just in case. (So, if they get weirdly suspiscious, they can call your doc.)

Simple OTCs such as aspirin, tylonel, dramimine, etc are okay.

And, I gather you already know that anything illegal will be confiscated.

You won't have any problems. Customs won't bother with your medications.

Just in case take your prescription with you and possibly the names of equivalent medicines, if you need to buy some more while you are there you can easily get them from pharmacies. If you say you need the medicine, they will NOT make you visit 10 doctors before you get a prescription. :-) The pharmacy will believe you... It may sound strange, but I prefer the healthcare services in Turkey to UK, Australia, US...

any kind as long as you have a current prescription for that medication with you when you enter the country

it all depends on what airline service. i suggest you give them a call or go their website for more info. probably can bring some advil, anti-biotic cream, bandaids, stomach medications like peto-bismal or related

olsbigsis
Best thing to do is ask the flight company, end of the day it's them that have the say on what you can take

You might not have a problem if they are in the original prescription bottles and maybe have a note from the doctor with the name of the medication(s) both actual name and generic name. also you can call somewhere in your state capital they would be able to direct you on where to call the customs agency in your state (all states have them). Have a nice trip!!

I went to Turkey last year and they weren't bothered, as long as they are prescription drugs with your name on the packet or bottle then you will be fine!

Littlestar
You shouldnt have a problem at all. I go every year and have had to take medication with me and didnt have any problems. I even took medication without my name on the bottle and wasnt questioned at all. As long as your medication is in your suitcase then you wont have any problems as they wont be checking your lagguage and asking you to open it etc. If you need to take your medication while on the plane then take that with you but leave the rest in you lagguage. As ive said before you will not have any problems whatsoever.

BJ
you should take something for your mental problem
