You see from the answers of people from Fyrom what their real purpose is: to expand on greek soil. That is why they are so rigid on the name propaganda. You see, if we recognised them as Macedonia, their next step would be: well, since we are MAcedonia, then teh entire Macedonia (half of Greece, practically), belongs to us. Greece never occupied Macedonia, Macedonia has always been part of Greece. We could say Slavs (who came to the area 1000 years after teh time of Alexander, for example) are occupying Macedonian soil, but we don't, and so they raise even higher claims!

Just to clear this: Teona and Laoplanos and the rest, I am not saying that there were no Slavs in Macedonia who had been living there since the middle ages, and populations in the entire area were mixed, and things changed during the Balkan wars. Well, at that time, countries were split up. Sure there are also Greeks who live in your country, Albanians in Macedonia, Greeks in Albania, Turks who had to leave, Slavs who had to leave, Greeks who had to leave Turkey, we know that. But that doesn't mean that the Slavs of Macedonia can be the only ones to have copyright on teh name Macedonia!

That part that was named Macedonia in antiquity, situated north of mount Olympus (the home of the Gods), east to Pindus mountains, west of Nestos river and south of ancient Paeonia. Only a small part of Pelagonia, ancient macedonian area, around Heraclea Lyncestis (Monastiri or Bitola), belongs to FYROM. The rest and biggest part of the historic Macedonia belongs to Greece and is populated by greek Macedonians, who have the same civil and human rights as all greeks do. Those greek Macedonians have fought against the FYROMians (then bulgarians) to gain their freedom and independence (1903-1908, 1912-1913, 1941-1944) and feel totally Greeks (definitely not a minority). Macedonia is 22,7 % of the area of Greece and greek Macedonians are about 20 % of the total population of Greece. It contains all the famous ancient macedonian cities except for Heraclea Lyncestis (Pella, Edessa, Argos Orestikon, Veroia, Thessalonike, Aegai, Serrai, Philippoi, Dion etc.) and the modern perfectures of Thessalonike, Kilkis, Chalkidike, Serres, Drama, Kavala, Pieria, Emathia, Pella, Florina, Kastoria, Kozani and Grevena.

The biggest part of Macedonia. It has been occupied after the Balkan wars 1912-1913. It has been sub-missed under strong ethnically cleaning over Macedonians and settled by Greek state with Greek refugees from Asia Minor.
To-days descendants of that refugees, who live over Macedonian soil without any real estate property document, pretend to name themselves as "Makedonas" and Greeks in the same time.
They ban real Macedonians to name their state as Macedonia.
And theirs, Greek refugees property, still remains in Turkey and wait for them to go back....

Just Another Macedonian

The part of Greece known as Macedonia was in fact occupied by Greece in 1912 and actually belongs to Republic of Macedonia, their northern neighbors. They are denying Macedonian minority in Greece and don't recognize our country under its constitutional name. They claim that Macedonia is Greek, which of course is not true, they occupied our territories and included them in Greece.
