Istanbul is my home town and for me the best place on earth:-)
There are a lot of beautiful places to live in Turkey because each region has its own beauty and speciality. For me to choose only one place is like a person trying to choose between his/her kids...
I think you can find the best place to live according to your likes.

Kaddykat: Why don't you buy one clothes drier? I didn't understand your point...

As a foreigner who lived in Turkey for 3 years i had most beautiful years in Istanbul. Now i go there to stay 2-3 monts
i have friends. My room mate is also Turkish so Turkey is my 2nd home (sometimes it is the 1st one even)
Excuse me but Istanbul is not like ANY big city, it is an exceptional city. Living in Istanbul was a joy everyday.

You should really try Istanbul. It's not exactly naturally beautiful, but more of an architectural beauty. There are so many gorgeous buildings and mosques that it's just impossible to absorb just in one day. Istanbul is a must-see if you really like site-seeing around the bigger cities. If you're looking for something more low-key, try going to Fethiye, Bodrum, or Antalya if you get the chance. I know you said you have visited the south of Turkey, but I'm not sure where exactly you went to, but these are my suggestions for now.

Merry Christmas!

I'm Macedonian!!!
well, i'm in love with Istanbul, but on the other hand, i've always wanted to visit Cappadocia

Miss. A
Istanbul is the best place in Turkey. It's like the best place in the U.S. is L.A. or New York.

Istanbul is the most expensive city of Turkey... But i believe not as expensive as EU cities although you can easily choose another city cheaper than ıstanbul.. What is your preferances ? If you like sun, try to find another city located in south along meditarrean sea..

I think Turkey Has a lot of places that are nice and being Kept up nicely with roads and Buildings but the nicer places i thing are the ones that Greeks left behind ! with their History and culture !

for natural beauty and cheap prices (on hotels and hand made gifts) then Cappadocia or Canakkale.

In cappadocia there are geological formations from wind and rain errosion

In Canakkale, you can go to a place like Assos and chill on the beach (but the Agean is cold) and you can also go to Athena's temple ruins, a short drive takes you to the city of Troy (but troy isn't so cool).

I've been living in Istanbul for almost a year now, and it is like any other major city (and it is very crowded, and in so many places dirty).

Also- the single thing I hate the most is that where I'm living (and I think also in most places) there isn't a clothes dryer. You have to hang laundry up by hand on a drying rack... sucks
