there are no cobras here
but we have a dangerous snake, it is called "Ohia" in Greek
- it is known as VIPER
its bite can cause death is few seconds and its kind is the most dangerous from the similar snakes that exist in Europe Continent
It prefers rocky places where sun is hot and it moves specially during daytime
there are 5 kinds of Viper known in Greece
those are
-Vipera xanthina (it lives in the nothen part of Greece)
-Macrovipera Shweizeri (it lives in islands specially in Milos island)
-Vipera Ammodytes (the most common species it lives all over Greece, except the island of Crete)
-Vipera Ursini and Vipera Berus (they both live in high mountains)
Regards from Greece |

NO COBRAS. As for the rest there are a couple of poisonous vipers but not deadly. Some wasps have a nastier sting and you have more to worry from them than snakes of the Ohia (accent on the a heavy h) type. |

No, there are no cobras. They are some vipers, but you won't meet them. They usually hide because they are very scared of people. If you do meet a snake, chances are it won't be poisonous, because most of the species in Greece are not poisonous. However, don't go disturbing it, just in case. If you don't bother them, they don't bother you! |

I think the only poisonous snake in Greece is the adder (i think its the species of adder that can be found in most of Europe.) go to wikipedia to see how it looks
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vipera_berus
And it is not lethal, if treated so don't panic if one bites you
I grew up in the country side so let me give you some tips.
-In generaly its difficult to encounter one.
-Avoid walking in tall grass (and moist tall grass) with out shoes or with sandals
- Never stick your hand in hole (for example between rocks). because besides snakes you can find scorpions -not lethal- but painfull- or spiders.
-If you visit raltively isolated and not frequently visited old churches be carefull, snakes find it cool and comfortable there
-I remind you. you will probably never see any snake, but if you do just dont try to hit or touch it. The snake is more afraid of you than you of it. |

I am certain that there are no cobras in Greece. I have heard that 90 % of the snakes in Greece are not poisonous (vipers are the most common poisonous snakes). Unfortunately both times that I tried to capture one they where poisonous, lol. |

There are 2 poisonous snakes in Greece, vipers and something of which I do not know the name in english (dendrogalia). No cobras or anything else (thank god) and to be honest, your chances of meeting a snake are rare - I have never seen one in my whole life wherever I have been |
