YOU MUST GO TO A LEAST ONE ISLAND,,,,I AGREE WITH SANTORINI......IT IS VERY DIFFERENT AND PERHAPS ANOTHER ONE SO YOU CAN COMPARE....THEN ATHENS,,,FOR A DAY ONLY,,,I CANT TOLERATE IT MORE THAN THAT IN SUMMER,,,,AND THESSALONIKI A MUST....AND PELOPONISSO......AND I THINK YOU WILL HAVE A BALL...ENJOY....

Depends on time, money and why you're going.

Culturally, that's easy.
Athens, for the museums and the Acropolis. Walk up the Sacred Way to the acropolis just at dawn.

Delphi. What a beautiful site. And great ruins.

Rhodes, is you have time...maybe the most-beautiful island because of its medieval fortifications and good tourist amenities.

Crete--go to Knossos and drive the north shore to other
sites.

Take a tour from Athens to Corinth, Mycenae and Epidaurus.

Or for ancient Greece instead of Rhodos's Medieval past, to Italian Sicily to Paestum, the great Greek temple ruins.

Do not restrict yourselve to see only 5 places.. nothing is a must, and as they say in Greece, live your own myth in Greece... pending on what you want to see or live up to.

1.The best of the big cities is Thessaloniki. It's the "capital" of north Greece. You see everything a big city has, but with a character that is not easy to be found elsewhere.
2. The Aegean islands are unbelievably beautiful, with top of Santorini. The disadvantage, not a green environment. But the views and tastes and night life are beyond imagination.
3. The Ionian islands combine green environment and nice places. The best is Corfu!
4. Crete is a big island, more like a province itself, and includes nature, beaches, nightlife, ancient history, especially Chania, but not only there.
5. All Greece is incredibly beautiful. Be more specific what are you looking for and I can guide you in more details.

All depends on what you are looking for... who you are going with... etc.

For example- if you want history and arts, then you want to spend more time in Athens. If you want to party like a rock star and you are 18-25 then go to Ios; or if you are 30-40 go to Mykonos. If you want to be romantic with your partner- Santorini and Milos.

Point is- the Islands are a must, but it all depends on what you are looking for. Best bet, do an internet search on topics you love and follow that lead. Or, ask another question with a more precise description of your expectations.

if you visit northern greece you should visit THESSALONIKI
the Greece's co-capital city
it is a wonderful city with a fantastic night life, friendly people, many fancy restaurants and also a lot of traditional taverns which are cheap to eat at
many monuments like the White Tower which is the symbol of the city,the big statue of Alexander the Great , the castles around the city, many beautiful churches like Ag.Sofia
also very near Thessaloniki is Chalkidiki a place with fantastic beaches where u can find really cheap rooms to rent especially at this time of the year but there are also some very luxurius hotels(in case u want to)
Vergina the place where the grave of Philipus the father of Alexander the Great was found and it is a very important archaiological place is also near thessaloniki

Kavala
Philippi is 15 km from Kavala and a dazzling archaeological site - easy to get to and well worth a visit.
