What should be turkeys attitude towards chinese olympics?

China does not put an end to its atrocities in east turkestan and tibet. This all reminds me of the 1936 olympics where the host nation started a world war, just 3 years after hosting such a peaceful event.

I say it would have been the best if we would boycott the olympics.

It's crazy that some of you guys are backing china in this. Do you know the extent of atrocities going on against turks there?

This is a westren media propaganda against China. We all know that they attacked China and accused them of manufacturing dangerous products but at the end One big company said it was there design fault. The west is targeting China because its an emerging super power.Turks wanna par with the west and trying to boycott the olympics so they could get EU membership Because there desperate .

Western politicians talked about it once or two, later all proved to be like a show.
Indifference toward similar atrocities brings this idea to mind that "no problem, that's normal". But really, how shameful it is when it becomes normal and no one speaks out.
I wish all countries would boycott China Olympics not as a threat to China or a political tool, but as a support for human rights.
But today, even human rights is politicized and governments don't want to lose relations with somehow important countries, it's a dirty deal.
Human rights is taken hostage for politics.
I wish governments would boycott it to give this message to the world: crimes against humanity and violences of human rights should not remain ignored and unpunished.

I think China is being treated unfairly too!
The problems with Tibet, East Turkestan etc. were there long before it was decided to hold the Olympic Games in China. Only the Olympic committee is to blame to let it happen in the first place. I would also feel sorry for all the athletes who trained their whole lifes for this opportunity and four years can make a big difference in their physical strength.
Besides this anti-China sentiment is unfair too! Ling Xi can buy a car today for herself because she can have a nice job now, she can eat nice food too and even go on a vacation. Those things were all very normal for you and me! And now the whole world doesn't want Ling Xi to have that lifestyle we always took for granted! They want to boycott Chinese products and Ling Xi will loose her car! That is pretty unfair! Shouldn't we all stop being so selfish and giving a small portion of our life up so that people like Ling Xi can also have a happy and decent life?
How about the atrocities committed by Americans, British, French, Spaniards etc.? Are those ok because we are talking about white people? Shouldn't we boycott the Winter Olympics too....they are in Canada...for their atrocities to the Inuit people? Why is no one talking about that?

Don't agree with Olympic Games boycotts.
History shows they never made any change.
Imagine if the USA did it in 1936:
Jesse Owens would never had the chance to proove Hitler, he was wrong about german's race "superiority".
PS - Next August in China, any athlet who supports Tibet, has a chance to do demonstrate it, and shows it to all world, live by TV!!!

Boycott them personally.. it is your right.. but there are thousands of young armature athletes worldwide that have trained to be the best for self and their countries to compete with each other in this friendly competition, No politics involved.
Peace, and GO USA

Do you seriously think boycotting the Olympics will bend the Chinese government's stance on human rights? China will take the boycott threat as a blackmail and there's no way it will forgo its sovereignty for the sake of sports. We would have then ruined the Olympic Games unnecessarily.

Win as many medals as possible.

The atrocities committed by various countries that hosted the Olympics weren't protested by Turkey. Why this one now?

I won't be the tool of certain countries that wage an invisible war on the rise of China. Besides, when China backs, Wahhabis enter. Look at the Uygurs for an example.

http://www.cfr.org/publication/9179/

2004 Athens -- the rights of ethnic Turks werenot accepted
2000 Sydney -- the goverment of Australia apologized from aborigines for painful assimilation policies only in February 2008.
1996 Atlanta -- USA still refuses to give freedom to natives

I ask again, why China? Will we pretend previous Olympics hosts had clean track records?

I think it needs to be positive;
-No country in the world fully respects human rights.
-East Turkestan is not that much related to Turkey, think of middle asian turkic republics, most of them are dictatorships, terrible things are going on in those countries too and even though most of the citizens of Turkey feel very close to them, for them we are no different than Iranians or South Africans. As an example, Republic of Turkey stopped requiring visa to the citizens of these Turkic republics, none of them did the same in return to us.Moreover obtaining a Turkmenistan or Uzbekistan visa is among the hardest visas to get for someone from Turkey.
-I think they think of Turkey as a non-developed islamic country and they feel somehow superior to have been part of 30 years back's super power, Soviet Union.
-In China, the only problems are not east Turkestan and Tibet, there are many other unhuman activities going on(i.e: Falun Dong).
-We have to consider these issues as internal problems of China and try to establish a good relationship with them from which both of the sides will benefit.
-As China will open more to the world, it will become more and more democratic and not only the people of East Turkestan will benefit from it, chinese will do as well.Beijing 2008 is an opprtunity for that.

At least 50'000 Chinese skinned alive dogs and cats and the buildings are built from the blood of these domestic pets.
Switzerland does't even import the garments trimmed with real animal furrs.

I agree with you. Boycott completely. I wish I could say we here in the US would do the same thing but American consumers rely on China for cheap goods even though they are constantly recalled for quality.
