Slick Rick
Kebab's
but seriously get yourself down to the Bhosphorus Europe side and chill out with a few bottles of Efes larger theres some great cafe bars down there and the scenery is great looking up at the suspension Bridge. take a boat trip.
other than that if you like architecture then check out the replies from above from Pinar and Irmak
also theres an interesting market are next to the British Embassy and the main road through retail area of the city is interesting enough it has a cool little tram line going through it.

I think I found the only Irish Bar that didn't sell Guinness up there.

The Sofia Cathedral and Blue Mosque are the main attractions opposite each other. The bazaar is nice. Step foot on the Asian side. The nightlife is also great

Bosphorus round trip by boat. If you're into photography, I suggest you do it on a clear day, in the morning, when the light is good.

I would suggest traditional Turkish food, too (not kebap), but I know of one place only, and that is in Uskudar. If you have the time, try Kanaat Lokantasi.

Oh my God! Do you think it is easy to answer a question about Istanbul here :) There are so many things to see and do.
The whole city is full of art and history. The Bosphorus is a natural beauty. Do visit St.Sophia, Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar and Mısır Çarşısı (spices bazaar). Sultanahmet Square, the Anatolian part, Beykoz, Sarıyer etc.
Do eat fresh fish and drink raki (just one glass). Try Turkish vegetable dishes, especially aubergines. Try baklava.
And lots of cheap but quality clothing.

All the things Greeks left behind...! Hey don't shoot me! Just joking!

Buy a lonely planet. There are many sites to visit and there is a lot and important history in this city. Great food too if you know where to look for it...

if you want something historical, you can go to the 'old' istanbul, which is topkapi palace, hagia sophia etc.

but if you want to see what turkish people to, how is their lifestyle, then go to nisantasi, taksim and bagdat street(in asian part of istanbul)
