I've visited Budapest a few times. I was just at Lake Balaton a few weeks ago. Budapest was of course beautiful and Balaton was fun with those planes dropping the little toy balls on the water and the silly rental boats. I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllll... liked the food and I like paprika and spicy stuff in general. The people I met were fairly interested in one's class background which I didn't particularly like because of my brainwashing here in the US. I also met people who felt a sort of quaint beauty in the state of depression and depressive slavic authors. That I kind of liked. I didn't get out to the countryside but I heard that there are a lot of old traditions still maintained which is always nice.

As for what other people think about Hungary?? For Americans and Asians that know a little about Hungarian history, I guess the word exotic comes to mind given the historical roots of the Magyar people. For scientists, there's quite a few famous academics in various fields as well that people might know about even if some of them identify themselves more as Jewish. For Romanians, Slovaks, and Jews, I imagine the views tend to be negative. For Russians, perhaps they feel apologetic when they think of Hungary. For Turks, perhaps they want their land back??? :) Perhaps Austrians still feel some sort of brotherhood. I'd be really curious to know what Hungarian gypsies think of Hungary. I know in China, people over 50 years old associate Hungary with soccer. :)

I thought it was a very friendly country. I went to Budapest a long time ago and I loved it. It is a beautiful old city and the people are really friendly. On the other hand I must say that I lived on an Army Base with a large Hungarian contingent and they were a little strange.

I went to Budapest for a romantic weekend and it was brilliant! Go to the restaurant called Spoon which is a boat on the river by the chain bridge over looking the state buildings on the hill. Food is great and view is like no other. It snowed whilst we were there too, very beuatiful.

I've been to Hungary several times. I just can't get enough of it. I love it there! The people are so friendly and helpful, there is a lot of interesting things to see and do, you have some really beautiful places there and the food is great. :)

I have been to a lot of countries (mostly in Europe) and I can honestly say that after my home country, Hungary is the country I like the most from the ones I've been to.

I'm from Iceland by the way.

I don't think about Hungary.

little country, not many places to visit - no mountains, no sea: the only thing nice - Budapest. and the people...a little too arrogant for my taste.
