Belgium is a country with a very rich gastronomic tradition. Having a good meal is very important for Belgian people. Belgians often visit a restaurant.

This are some typical local dishes a Belgian housewife would made:
- potatoes mashed with carrots, a sausage, meatsauce
- endive rolled in gammon with cheesesauce
- tomatoes, shrimps, mayo, Belgian fries
- meatballs in cherrysauce
- asparagus with a boiled egg, parsley, buttersauce
- porcroast, haricots, croquettes
-...
The most popular foreign food in Belgian is Italian food.

Actually, we eat about every thing...
Chinese, Italian, Spanish,... just not really French cuisine because we think it's just posh food with not much content...

At home we prefer boiled potatoes with a piece of meat and vegetables, nothing fancy and we do love our mash in winter...
We are a gourmet kind of bunch and enjoy eating out ... minimal a three course meal with matching wines...

But the one thing all Belgians do after coming home from a trip abroad, is stop at the first "french fries stand" to have some "real" Belgian french fries with mayonnaise...

POTATOES !!!! LOTS of it.... also MEAT...i get my drift... Belgians eat just about the same food most other industrialized country eat.

Belgian food is more then just waffles....try mussels(in several ways), stoofvlees (stew) with frieten , rijstpap met bruine suiker(rice with brown sugar), kip met appelmoes (chicken with applesaus), meat balls with celery and tomato sauce,Loze vinken( minced meat with a veal wrapping)
And Belgium is the inventor of the chips( in USA they call it fries)
And yes the Belgian cuisine is influenced of France, the Burgoyne cuisine
