Travel cheques are safer than cash.
Cash is more convenient that travel cheques.
You will have to balance your needs. Not every shop in Turkey accepts travel cheques. Especially street vendors will accept cash only.

travel cheques, but every where doesn't necessarily accept them

Travellers cheques
knowitall
ATM debit card..as long as you have the money in the bank to cover it.
Most machines around the world will accept Maestro...Cirrus...Visa plus etc.
Are you aware you will need a £10 note to enter Turkey...if there are 2 of you...make it 2 tenners...not a twenty they only count that as 1..and will also want £10 off the other person as well.

Travellers cheques and make a note somewhere of the numbers of them in case they are stolen and do not keep that list alongside the cheques.

Cash or ATM.
not all accept travelers cheques and there is a fee for issuing them and a fee for cashing them. You can lose 5 - 10% of the value of your cheques. Take limited cash to get thru the airport and then use ATM card.
Most ATM providers have some sort of insurance or coverage for fraud and toll-free numbers to report stolen cards.

Travel Cheques and if you lose them they can be replaced as long as you have not signed them in advance

if i've had my travel and accommodation booked prior to my trip, normally i don't pack so much cash when travelling to europe knowing that i can use my debit card abroad as long as the cash machine's got maestro/cirrus symbols on it. the uk bank doesn't charge much anyway to get cash that way (it was about 2 quid per transaction, depending on the exchange rate).

WHICH is the safest?
Travellers cheques without a doubt.
They're also just about the most costly way of getting your holiday money.

Cash is much safer, you should carry it in an open purse, so that it is visible to everyone, and flash high value notes to buy just a coffee. Go out at night with all your cash on you, and visit crowded bars and disco's etc. I promise nothing will happen to you.
