My parents loved picking out my clothes. When everybody else was wearing big kid clothes, my parents would still try to buy me dresses with flowers and pandas all over them. ugh!

I remember that my Mom did that too. I catch myself doing it to my kids sometimes when we are in a hurry.

my mum done nothing to embarrass me. honestly she never embarrassed me. only maybe when i was with friends she would call many times to see what i was doing. now i am a mum i do exactly the same.. i mean worrying and doing silly things. you wait until you become a mother.:) .

Ohhh...that's a MOM thing! We called it a "spit bath" in my suburban Ohio neighborhood.

It isn't as embarrassing as running around with a filthy face.

Actually, no, I don't think my mom did anything embarrassing when I was a kid, except force me to speak on the phone to relatives I didn't know. I always hated that, and I won't make my daughter do it if she doesn't want to.

here it is a common practice cos mothers at that time thinks about her child only and tries to keep it different from others, neat and clean and save her from being embrassed due to unclean hands or face

that happened to me too. it's okay.now that i am older my mom doesnt do that. since i am in high school. so its awesome. i can drive and everything. in a year i will be moving in with my cousin.he plays for the nba. that will be humiliating so. its not half as bad. my mom used to call me pickles around my friends. scary.

Yeah yeah it happened to all of us. The usual for me was, "Oh..... is this girl CUTE!" in front of a girl... VERY annoying. If your an adult you need to let your kid on a longer leash and try to leave them aline when they are in public. If you want, tell them later about something that you did not like. If you are a kid... tell your parents what you didn't like about them what they did. They might understand. I not, it's okay. They don't know how you feel :)

Yes, so did my mother. She once even did one worse thing: I was eight or nine years old, and she tried to push my li'l sister's soother into my mouth, in front of all the kids who were waiting for the school bus. I think she just was a bit confused that day and somehow mixed up her two kids.

not my mammy but daddy collected me from my friends house and when me and my friend answered the door he was in his night dress with a smoke hanging out of his mouth...next day in school she had told some of the girl i just laughed it off !!! ;o

Yes, my Mother would do that too. Or she would get out this big comb and put spit on it to wet a cowlick down that my brother and I might have sticking up.Ick.

Yes, I suppose she did. But as I look back on them now, some 50 years later, these embarrassing quirks and her fussiness over trivial detail were actually great acts of love and selflessness. Just her way of caring and looking after me to the best of her ability.

Oh yes,my Mother used to do that too.I think all Mother`s do that.And the dresses I had to wear...I love looking at them picture`s from that time and I always have to laugh.

As I was reading your question, immediately what you mention at the end sprang into my mind. I couldn't bear that habit of my mother's.To this day, I can still smell the spit. haha.
