Where's the cheapest place in Europe to live? |
For example, our 2-bed bungalow would probably fetch around £205,000 (GBP)= €301,000 (EUR). Thanks to Equitable Life, we're going to need to sell the bungalow to purchase both a retirement property and an annuity to give us an income. We like France, but fear that the market there has become too expensive. My cousin has bought some land there and is building his own house, but we feel 'they saw him coming', and it's been a bit overpriced because he's British. Additional Details Thanks Justin. I'm really looking for like-for-like comparison prices as well as suggestions. |

Bulgaria, definitely. Besides the properties, everything is cheap in here (I'm from Bulgaria) - food, chlotes, taxes, sea and ski resorts... |

Bulgaria is by far the cheapest country in Europe. I live here and I don't like this fact, as there is no place in Europe where I could go for a cheaper holiday than here :). One beer costs less than 50 Euro cents - disgraceful... Otherwise it's nice - sea, mountains, nice climate, lots of sun in the summer and skiing in the winter. |

Try Romania. It is hot in the summer. But don't go in the south. Go in the central part of Romania, the region is called Transylvania. The cities are very old and they have this gothic medieval look, coz Transilvania was a province of the Austrian Empire for some hundreds of years. It's quite nice. In spring and summer you should go at the seaside at the Black Sea. It's great ! |

well if you are really clever you can come here illegally to live in a rent free house and get all your bills paid by the govenment but alas if you are a hard working british resident and payed your dues you get didly squat i think it is cheaper up north myself the propertys are very resonable. good luck |

Spain can be cheap but as a whole in Europe i think you pay for the area its is in. Or Bulgaria. Houses in Bulgaria cost £65,000 upwards it looks well cheap there 2 |

Try Montenegro... But only the coastal part... Boka Kotorska is beautiful... It's probably cheaper than the rest of Europe (I know for a fact that it's cheaper than Croatia)... I would also recommend Serbia but it gets really cold here in the winter... Maybe Ionian Greek islands? There you shouldn't have problems with language, they can all speak at least a little bit English because of a great number of UK tourists each summer... But always remember to bargain with Greeks so you don't do as your cousin... ;) |
