Without a shadow of a doubt the west coast facing the Atlantic, 'La Cote Savage' the beaches here are superb, waves are amazing, unfortunately they do not get the weather of the Mediterranean coast, but by comparison the Med. coast beaches are quite boring.

Arcachon...near Bordeaux and Biarritz...both great beaches.
There is good surfing at Biarritz and there are fabulous sand dunes at Arcachon.
