OHRID, Macedonia

Well there are many beautiful cities, but still, my fav is Ohrid. I love that city. Thereâ€™s so much to be seen there..

During the day you can go on any of the many beautiful beaches by the shore of the lake, do some shoping, sightseeing in the city or just sit in one of the many cafÃ©s in any of the narrow streets in the Old Town and enjoy. For all the young people, the nightlife is great and vibrant. The cafes work late at night, but thereâ€™re also so many nightclubs where you can carry on from there.

For sightseeing, thereâ€™re enormous many old churches, my favourite ones are Plaoshnik, more than 15 centuries old, St. Jovan Caneo, St. Naumâ€¦ If you climb on the Samuil Fortress, just 5 min from the centre, you get amazing sight on the whole lake.

The Lake is clean, one of the oldest ones in Europe, from 1980 protected by UNESCO as a place of world cultural and natural inheritance. Most of the lakeâ€™s plant and animal species are endemic, which also makes Ohrid unique. The most famous among these are two types of Ohrid Trout. You should try them prepared on the traditional way. Mmmmmâ€¦

Ohrid is also known as the site of the first Slavic university run by St. Clement and St. Naum at the end of the 9th century. Ohrid, also, used to be the centre of the orthodox Christianity in the whole region. Thereâ€™s so much history thereâ€¦

And DO NOT miss a boat trip on the lake, especially at night, believe me one of a kind experience!!

I must not forget to mention the hospitability of the people there.

In the last few years Ohrid is soooo popular among foreign tourists, especially Greeks, Dutchmen, Bulgarians, Serbians etc. So, check it out and have fun!!!

p.s. And, did I say it's cheap?! ;o)

Spain and Turkey are cheap, Greece is a bit more pricey drinkswise, about the same price as UK.

Have you considered Croatia? It's got amazing beaches and islands, plus it's still relatively cheap, at least compared to Western Europe. They aren't switching over to the Euro for a little while so you can get some good deals.

Other options are the Baltic coast of Poland, Turkey (not too pricey once you're there, although depending on where you're flying to and when, flights can cost a bit more), Greece (though *very* crowded and hot during the summer), Spain, Portugal... Greece, Spain and Portugal will all have extreme temps during the summer so if you aren't used to hot hot weather, you may want to stay clear of there!

A couple of other ideas would be the Cornwall area of England and Nice in France. Nice is gorgeous and warm any time of the year, with beautiful people, lots of great beaches, markets, etc.

All the lads go to either Cyprus,[ayia napa] San Antonio in Ibiza, or Magaluf in Majorca. The last two only 2 hours from UK, Cyprus 4 hrs.[Some may be spelt wrong, going from memory].

A Greek island would be good. Falaraki, Malia, Kavos are the main clubbing resorts I think. If you check out teletext holidays you should be able to get a dirt cheap deal.

Go and ask in a travel agent what the big selling packages are this year. Spain is always a winner too, costa del sol etc. Good luck! Bring lots of nurofen!
