Hi Armen,
Developing limited (and probably not much serious) diplomatic and some economic relations is possible in near future.
But about relations between two nations, it will take a long time as the current situations has formed through a century.

The real way out of this terrible Armenian-Turkish relations I think was HRANT DINK's route. Because he was not a politician but a man who was proud on both Turkish and Armenian heritages. Only this kind of honest approaches can help us, so we (both Armenian and Turkish people) should know him better, if we want a better future for our nations that live in a permanent neighborhood.

Communication - open-minded communication.

(But holding hands around the campfire would be good too.)

Um, wait a second. I'm an American soldier in Iraq. Why am I giving advice on peaceful solutions?

Never mind.

Future, near future....

Maybe you could follow the example of the Germans and French after the Second World War. Politicians from both countries came together and started a lot of separate youth programmes that would bring the young people of the two countries together. The mutual agreement was to leave the past out of it, and to look to the future.
After a millennium of warfare between the 2 neighbours, there is now hardly anybody who could imagine the bad blood and the enmity that used to be there in our grandfathers' generation.

ilke
I have an Armenian friend. She is much older than me. We've been working together for 5 years. We go very well. We never think about our nationalities and we are good friends. But our culture like family life, attitude, food... etc so similar. I am so happy that she is around me. Some times I need her advice :)
Mind you my great gran dad was poisoned by Armenians and my grandad and his brother had such a tough life. I still don't forgive those people who did this to my family. But it was in the past. We are new generation and we have to cope with any problems between us.

actually your question INCLUDES the right answer to it

No comments about the so-called g word and the next comes by itself

how can one expect that there could be peaceful and positive neighboring relations between two countries as long as one of them is continously blaming the other one?

for ever

well so far our politicians messed up everything from both side, i have bad news there is no sensible way to solve this without mentioning the unmentionable.

it is just part of the whole picture.and it is a harsh reality that it will go on and on.

I don't like generalizing to much ,

There is a lot of disagreements and provocation anger among-st the two community's

I must point out that,,, this anger is not personally directed against each other as human beings ,
it is directed against our beliefs , having different views , contradicting each other , for what ever reasons, it could be,,
events that took place many years a go in our past
as Alana puts it, events that are occurring now , and future events we think it may occur or may not occur ,

way out is not easy, if we are left to sort out our deferences at people level , it will take a long time ,,
word by mouth take a long time and it dose get distorted over time,,

A quick way that would work and take immediately effect,
is on governmental level,
states man , presidents or prime ministers army generals
people who we look up to, row-models,
these are the kind of diplomats are needed to make the first move and visit each others country,, show signs that they are in good relations or at least working together to build better relationship between the two nations,,

You would see how very quickly people starts to feel better,,
and treat each other with respect and understanding ,

......................EDIT...............
Hey Misvev,,what is more important for you, to make a point,, or first talk about finding a solution for the benefit of your people and country to prosper , succeed flourish especially financially thrive like other nations do ,, gain the wealth and other good things in life,,,

Because this is what it is all about now ,,WEALTH

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>2nd EDIT<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Armeniaf;; 10% growth is good, 20- 30% would have been better,, don't you agree, you need Turkey it is a must,,

like Turkey needed and still need some of it's trading partners , even though we have nothing in common with them ..
look how we bent backward to be friend Greece ,, been at war, with Greece,, Cyprus issues, ege issues ,, but we are still trying no mater what , because it will help our economy to have Greece on our side,,,,

No there's no way out.

Hmm... I see a simple and fair solution: the Turkish head of state makes a official earnest apology to all the races Turks have brutally massacred, then slowly repair relations through economic cooperation, cultural exchange and other bilateral assistance. That's the only civil thing to do.

Ipek K
Hello Armen,

I would suggest you to edit your question and add more explanations i.e whether you mean political and economical relations between Turkey and Armenia or social relations between the Turks and Armenians.

You can also state which problems you are referring to.

I believe it will help us to focus more on the answer and prevent unnecessary speculations.

EDIT : YEAH, I SAID SOMETHING REALLY OFFENSIVE DIDN'T I?
THE (AT THE MOMENT) 3 PEOPLE WHO GAVE ME THUMBS DOWN; YOU BETTER LEARN TO CONTROL YOUR SHALLOWNESS AND YOUR IGNORANCE BASED HATRED . I KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND IT IS GETTING EMBARRASSING ON YOUR BEHALF.

Ideally isolationism would be the best solution and let everyone do their own thing, but in actuallity, isolationism can't work.
All countries depend on each other in some form or fashion. We need to craft a fair trade agreement that addresses human rights issues, but not other countries beliefs or method of government.
If money comes in and the occupationists leave power we could have a strong world economy with alot more friends.
I know that's a rosey picture, and will never happen, but thats the way out.

Matt
Economic incentives are enough to bring any two countries "back together" after a rough time...

just look at the US and Japan. Japan needed the economic boost, so it quickly allied with its past rival, despite countless civilians being killed in a "genocide" via two atomic bombs.

As Turkey and Armenia increase their global positions... and see more money, other things will become less important...

Firstly I dont know the answer but most certainly digging up the past is not a good place to start as both nations are guilty of wrong actions...

so making a fresh start is something should be considered at least to give it a try..

Then start diging up the past after...and both side should accept their guilt (accept whatever truth that comes out)

But if the mentality will be (well I will give you an example from YA), giving thumbs up or down without reading the answers and going just by names...I dont think it would work...Both governments should be whole hearted or..I am sorry to say that but it would not work...

It makes me so sad that current relations between Turkey and Armenia is almost non-existent.These two nations who lived for centuries side by side and created a common culture, should unite and think for the improvement of their own region.Diaspora armenians who never been to this part of the world adore to insult Turkish people I think that the very first thing they need to do is to stop bullshiting on Turkey aimlessly.
Obviously the best way to resolve this problem will be restarting diplomatic relationship and opening the borders, closed borders causes much of Armenia's existent misery.Armenians should re-consider the usage of the word 'genocide', turkish people do accept that this was a big massacre and do share the terrible pains experienced by the armenians of the time however given the conditions of the time, this was not even close to what Hitler did to Jews.(Just an example, Turkey did genocide(Turkey was even not founded by that time) Nazis did genocide (never germans nor germany))
As I say we need to consider hundreds of years of convivencia(living together) rather than remembering few years of World War I.That will make both of the sides stronger and those who want our geography to be weak will not manage their aims.

sunny side up
Very thought provoking! Re-structuring the U.N. cause Im not so sure its as effective as we'd like to think it is.

Totally Blunt
1. Shut Dr Beemer up,
2. Open a clean slate and stop digging the past.

It is very easy, really. Just ask Turks and Armenians who are already friends.

comments on so-called genocide lie already started by your friends, dude. the only problem is using that word in our every meetings every argument in everywhere... why cant you think something different?

Which genocide?

The way is;
1) You mustn't forget that Anatolia is a Turkish land since 1000 years and will be..
2) You mustn't treat us and Azeri Turks like an enemy. There wasn't any problems between us since 1900s but Armenians became puppets of Russia. Then became an enemy of us. In the conclusion İt became a necessity to force Armenians to immigrate.
3) You must leave the lands which you occupied, owned by Azerbaijan.
4) And then both coutries will be friends.

Which country doesn't want a friendly country beside it.. So do Turkey..

Finally TURKEY DOESN'T NEED ARMENIA, ARMENIA NEEDS TURKEY!!! Turkey rules the game.
