Where in Europe are you? Once city I can recommend is Cologne, Germany, because the architecture is marvellous and so is the waterview. Then maybe you can take a train down to Italy and just go city and restaurant hopping there.
Here's what I can say about places I've actually been to:
Stay a few days in Leuven, Belgium to enjoy the "modern world" meets "medieval era" atmosphere... Leuven has the most beautiful architecture and landmarks. For a real treat, take a walk for two in Grote Begijnhof--a neighbourhood that's been around since medieval times. It used to be a small village where pious single women lived together in community to pray and fellowship... today people still live there and it's incredibly tranquil and beautiful. After the walk, sit down with Dad for coffee in the Grote Markt or at this cafe in Ladeuzeplein called Ron Blacks. There you can view the majestic University Library and the famous Fly On The Needle. Don't forget to pop around the corner for Belgian waffles! Btw, Belgian cuisine is very fine gourmet and these days it's even better than the French.
From Leuven hop on a Thalys train to Paris and stroll around Eiffel and Arc de Triomphe. Many people suggest fishtailing down to the south of France where they have beautiful beaches. Do go back via Paris, though, and spend a day at Disneyland--it is a MUST visit. |

me and mum drove from England to Spain, crossed on the ferry, stayed in what ever hotel was there when we were tired, eat when we were hungry, made no bookings and enjoyed it immensely, we are thinking of doing something similar again soon. |

The Eiffel tower. Not many people know this, but you can even have dinner at the top! It is not very expensive and the view is fabulous. |

Venice is amazing and you can see everything in a few days. There is no other place like this in the world and if you want something different and memorable then this has to be it! The Basilica is astounding. You don't even have to stay in Venice because travelling there by train is cheap and comfortable, and an amazing experience going out over all that water!
Hope you enjoy it what ever you do. |

South of France, Nice weather there. always remember the donuts they do on the beach front. or if you looking for a bit of culture, try prague, munich is supposidly quite nice. Normandy in France has a lot of history to look at. all depends on what his interests are.
Austria is nice place to go but would need to spend a week or so there. |

i lived in germany for nine years and loved every minute of it. what time of the year is the main question. Oktoberfest is crowed but a must. christmas time there are christmas markets every where but cold. easter is a time of decoration and the weather is nice. volksmarches in a lot of town if you like to walk and it is located to other countries that you could take a train to almost any where in less then a day. now that the wall is down you can drive to the old east bloc countries. and don't forget the castles, churches and residents. and of course if you are a beer drinker out door pubs and indoor pubs on every corner. have a great time and take your camera. |

You need to put together some kind of itinerary possibly with the help of a travel agent or at the railway station. For example two days in London, then a trip to Bath. Day 4 - travel to Paris, day 5 - Paris, day 6 travel to Rome, day 7 Rome and so on. For a stay of say 3 - 4 days in one location it is hard to beat Berlin. He could visit the British War Cemetery where over 200 Australians are buried. See www.jbb7994.com |

What does he like? For beer, pubs, hearty food, friendly English speaking folks, try Dublin, Ireland. For breathtaking landscapes, wine, coffee, relaxation, yummy fresh seafood, try Cinque Terre, Italy. |

It depends a little on where you live and how much you are prepared to spend. It is feasible now to do day trips to certain places if you can get an early enough flight out and late enough one back. I went to Venice for a day with Easyjet for about ÂŁ50 return from Gatwick. BA are doing good deals to Europe at the moment too. The list of places to visit is endless. Obviously Paris is a stones throw, done that on a two day drip in car/ferry quite cheaply. Using the train you can visit Brusslels, stay overnight, hire a car and travel to Amsterdam. WOW there really is a lot of choice. Do a little online research, good luck with it and I hope you have lots of fun |
